The New Stowa Flieger Verus Black Forest Lagoon
An unexpected yet stylish blacked-out pilot's watch with Lagoon-blue dial elements.
Flieger-style watches tend to share a similar aesthetic across various brands. However, Stowa, one of the most historically significant manufacturers of pilot’s watches, offers various designs while remaining faithful to the original Type A and Type B models. The latest addition to the brand’s Pilot collection presents a strikingly modern interpretation of the Baumuster A. Let’s take a closer look.
The new Stowa Flieger Verus Black Forest Lagoon is housed in a 40mm black-coated stainless steel case, which is water-resistant up to 50 meters and measures 10.2 mm in thickness with a lug-to-lug distance of 48.6 mm. The bezel features a chamfered edge, while the exhibition caseback is securely screwed in place.
Topped with a flat sapphire crystal, the matte black dial showcases minutes and seconds track markings alongside hour indices, all rendered in a glossy black finish.
What truly stands out are the distinctive central hour, minute, and second hands, along with the iconic dotted triangle at the 12 o’clock position, presented in a vibrant turquoise inspired by the Blautopf – one of Germany’s bluest bodies of water, located in Baden-Württemberg. The numerals and indices are filled with black Superluminova for enhanced visibility in low light, emitting a striking blue light in the dark, much like the lume-treated handset and the aviator triangle for orientation. True to Stowa’s tradition, the date window (positioned at 6 o’clock) and the brand’s logo are optional.
Stowa provides a selection of movements to power the new Flieger Verus Black Forest Lagoon. Customers can choose between the basic or top versions of the Sellita SW200 (a clone of the ETA 2824) and the top version of the hand-wound Sellita SW210 (the same base movement without the automatic module). The watch is complemented by a black aviator strap without rivets, secured with a pin buckle.
Prices for this new and modern take on the classic military pilot’s watch begin at EUR 1,090 for the model featuring the basic automatic Sellita and EUR 1,220 for the top-grade version. The version with the hand-wound Sellita SW210 is priced at EUR 1,240. For more details, please visit stowa.de.

Nice, but why 5atm?
Microbrand watch
Really interesting option to the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical. Wish this was in 36mm like their other pilots watches.
I’d take the manual wind too.
Mvmt called..
A pilot watch that you can’t read the time? It’s a.nonsense and a big failure design.
@Luis: You can´t read the time from just the hands (which are very legible in this watch)? Come on…
