Spotted – Stanislas Wawrinka wearing the new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver Chronograph at French Open 2016
While “Mister Watch” in the tennis circuit – a.k.a Rafael Nadal – just forfeited from the French Open, we imagined that watch spotting there was over. Of course we were wrong, as Rafa is not the only watch fan / ambassador to run the show. Swiss player and winner of the 2015 French Open / Roland Garros Stan Wawrinka is known for his love of AP watches – as seen last year – and for the 2016 edition of the Roland Garros tournament, he just strapped a brand new Audemars Piguet.
Audemars Piguet is rather successful on tennis courts. At the 2015 French Open, both masculine and feminine winners, Stanislas Wawrinka and Serena Williams, were wearing an AP Royal Oak Offshore on the wrist, the sporty and robust edition of the the brand’s icon. And while some are sporting crazy concept watches, capable of enduring a 5000G force, with a carbon/quartz case and a tourbillon movement – Nadal and his 777,000 Euros Richard Mille – Stan Wawrinka demonstrated that you don’t need such technology to resist a world’s class tennis game, but simply a production Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph – a Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph in Steel ref. 26470ST to be precise.
This year, at the 2016 French Open / Roland Garros, Stanislas Wawrinka is wearing the new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver Chronograph, introduced a few months earlier, at the SIHH 2016. This edition, based on the dive watch of the brand, with internal rotating bezel, adds a chronograph function and flashy colors – blue, green, orange and yellow. To perfectly match with its new outfit, Stan of course went for the later – and we must say, it looks quite good on his wrist.
We hope that this AP ROO Diver Chronograph will bring Stan as much luck as in 2015… which, considering what we’ve seen so far from the guy, could well be the case. www.audemarspiguet.com.
