A soft lavender dial brings a distinctly British mood to Speake Marin's contemporary sports watch.

Speake Marin introduced the Ripples in 2022, and with it, the independent brand entered the crowded luxury sports watch category with its own, slightly eccentric creation. The rounded-square La City case, the strongly textured dial, and the small seconds at 1:30 made it instantly recognisable. Infinity Date, Dune Date, Ripples Skeleton and even a full gold version followed. This year, the series adds a new edition, inspired by London’s Portobello district, known for its colourful façades, market streets and eclectic character. Speake Marin brings this atmosphere to the wrist with a lavender tone, applied across the dial and strap of the new Ripples Portobello.

The La City case remains unchanged. Conceived by Stéphane Lacroix and composed of 40 parts, its complex shape combines a rounded square profile with a circular dial opening. Crafted from stainless steel, it measures 40.3mm in diameter and 9.2mm thick. Satin-brushed surfaces contrast with polished bevels and profiles, while the prominent crown guards almost entirely enclose the screw-down crown. Sapphire crystals are fitted front and back, and the watch is water-resistant to 50m.

The brass dial starts with a silver-toned base and receives the collection’s signature 12 horizontal ripples, engraved into the surface and satin-finished by hand. A translucent lavender-tinted lacquer is then applied, allowing the tone to shift from pale and luminous to a deeper purple depending on the light.

At 1:30, the signature small seconds interrupts the pattern with a sunray finish and a diamond-cut, rhodium-plated frame. Faceted rhodium-plated baton indices, including a double index at 12, and the familiar Speake Marin hands, structure the display. The opaline signature cartouche and peripheral minutes track are also tinted lavender.

The watch is powered by the proprietary automatic calibre SMA03-T, conceived, developed and assembled by Speake Marin’s manufacture, Le Cercle des Horlogers in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Measuring 30mm in diameter and 3.9mm thick, the movement uses a fully integrated tungsten micro-rotor, contributing to the slender profile of the Ripples. The 144-component calibre operates at 28,800 vibrations/hour and has a power reserve of 52 hours. Visible through the sapphire caseback, it features a circular-grained mainplate, rhodium-plated bridges with broad 3mm Côtes de Genève and hand-polished bevels. The micro-rotor receives a microbeaded surface and exclusive laser-engraved decoration.

Completing the Portobello theme is a lavender calfskin strap with an embossed denim pattern and tone-on-tone stitching, closed by a stainless steel folding clasp. The new Speake Marin Ripples Portobello is immediately available, priced at CHF 22,900 excluding taxes. For more details, visit speake-marin.com.
