Seiko’s Prospex diver series has long established the brand´s reputation for serious underwater engineering, in particular with the 1968 300m water-resistant Professional Diver (6159), which stands as one of the brand’s earliest defining tool watches. That same character lives on in the modern Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver GMT series, introduced in 2023 as Seiko’s first mechanical GMT diver. Since then, we’ve seen several iterations, from the inaugural SPB381/383 models to the 2025 SPB509 60th Anniversary edition with a new micro-adjust clasp. The series quietly added a distinctive new member, the SPB534 Seashadow, a limited edition of 500 pieces. While it doesn´t offer a radical redesign, the Seashadow proves that thoughtful colour and a practical update can turn a familiar watch into a collectable modern classic.

The new Seiko Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver GMT Seashadow SPB534 carries forward the technical specifications of the 300m models, constructed with a 42mm stainless-steel case with Seiko’s super-hard coating and a unidirectional ceramic bezel insert. Measuring 13.3mm thick and 48.6mm lug-to-lug, it’s a robust diver’s case with alternating brushed and polished surfaces, a screw-down crown at 4 o’clock, and a solid caseback, engraved.

The visual theme is where the SPB534 is different. First, it´s the gold-toned bezel with a black ceramic insert, properly graduated. Then, the glossy black dial, which evokes the classic Seiko 6159 diver, is enhanced here by gold-tone hands and bold markers with matching outlines. A subtle grey 24-hour hand adds contrast and legibility without disrupting the colour scheme. The date window is tucked in at 4:30 between the markers, functional, but not intrusive with its black background.

The Seiko Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver GMT SPB534 is powered by Seiko’s calibre 6R54, providing a 72-hour power reserve, operating at 21,600 vibrations/hour, and offering a caller-style GMT functionality with an independently adjustable 24-hour hand. Accuracy is rated at +25/-15 seconds per day, consistent with Seiko’s mid-range automatic movements, even though in reality these movements often perform much better.

The watch is worn on a three-link bracelet with the recently launched micro-adjust clasp, which allows up to 15mm of tool-free extension, a genuinely practical upgrade for divers and desk-bound wearers. The bracelet is, just like the watch, well constructed and has a clear heft.

Limited to 500 numbered pieces, the Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver’s GMT Seashadow SPB534 will be available exclusively in selected Seiko boutiques. It is priced at EUR 1,900 or GBP 1,600. For more details, please visit www.seikowatches.com.
