The New Ice-Blue, Europe-Only Seiko Presage Style60’s SRPL19

A fancy, colourful take on Seiko's vision of a vintage-inspired watch.

Released in 2021, the Presage Style60’s was positioned as Seiko‘s vision of a casual, all-rounder-oriented and vintage-inspired watch. Far from the classism of the Craftsmanship Series or the funky colours of the Cocktail models, this collection was loosely based on the 1964 Crown watch, Japan’s first wrist chronograph – hence the sporty touch of this range. And as winter will soon arrive on the Old Continent, Seiko has decided to release an ice-blue version of the Seiko Presage Style60’s, the limited edition SRPL19 that is reserved for the European market.

For those already familiar with the Style60’s collection, this new release will look close to what’s already existing. As a reminder, this Presage range is a departure from the traditional “Japanese artistry” models we’ve come to expect from this collection. A more accessible follow-up to the watches inspired by the 1964 Crown Chronograph, and a sportier and retro-styled range of watches, the Presage Style60’s came with detailed dials, fairly reasonable dimensions, a fixed external bezel and classic entry-level automatic movements with either a time-and-date display, a central power reserve indication, an openheart dial or recently a GMT function. The new model we’re looking at today is based on the classic 3-hand version, released in an appealing and trendy colour but only for the European market.

The case of this new SRPL19 is everything we’ve come to expect from the Presage Style60’s collection, with pleasant dimensions – 40.8mm in diameter, 12mm in thickness and 47mm in length. Made of stainless steel, the case combines brushed surfaces and polished accents, with the typical no-nonsense appeal of a vintage watch, reinforced by the presence of an external bezel, here with a blue-toned metallic insert and its 60-minute scale. The retro touch is reinforced by a box-shaped crystal protecting the dial, made of Hardlex mineral glass (no sapphire, unfortunately). The back is screwed, comes with a see-through window and the water-resistance is rated at 50 metres.

Besides the dark blue bezel insert, what sets this new Europe limited edition is the dial. Perfectly in time for the upcoming winter days (even if the colour could also work great during summer), Seiko brings here a nice, discreetly coloured dial in ice-blue tones. As precious versions, this dial is nicely detailed with a combination of radially brushed surfaces with a vertically brushed chapter ring, which is home to the applied hour markers – polished and double-faceted. The sharp Dauphine hands are coated with Lumibrite and small luminous markers are also found next to the applied indices. On this version, the date has been kept at 3 o’clock with a metallic frame (contrary to the recent SRPL07 & SRPL09, with a round window at 4:30).

For the occasion of this limited edition, the SRPL19 will be delivered with a classic 3-link steel bracelet, closed by a folding clasp, as well as a beige-coloured nylon fabric strap with its own pin buckle – which somehow works great with the light blue dial. Inside the case is the automatic calibre 4R35, with 41 hours of power reserve.

Available exclusively from European boutiques and retailers, limited to 3,000 pieces, the Ice-Blue Seiko Presage Style60’s SRPL19 is a nice and appealing addition to the collection that will be on sale as of November 1st, 2024. It will retail for EUR 640. For more details, please visit www.seikowatches.com.
