New Silk-Inspired Dials and a 38mm Case Join the Seiko Presage Classic Series
The new HCC001, HCC002, HCC003 and HCC008, four new 38mm Presage watches with textured dials inspired by silk
Few line-ups in Seiko‘s catalogue seem as focused on dials as the Presage Classic Series. While most new releases are quick to talk about case materials, bezels, or mechanics, the conversation here almost always starts with colour and texture. We have seen that through porcelain dials, open-heart references, and more recently, the 36mm “Edo Silk” models. Now Seiko again takes inspiration from silk, this time looking at Tomioka silk. The four new watches also introduce a 38mm case size that sits between the existing 36mm and 40mm versions in the collection.
Tomioka silk is one of Japan’s high-quality silk products and has much to do with heritage and craftsmanship. Seiko borrows its look for these new dials, using a stamped pattern that creates a guilloché-like texture and gives the dials more depth and panache. One limited edition joins three regular-production models, each bringing its own style and look.
The Seiko Presage Classic Series “Tomioka Silk Promotion Organisation” Limited Edition HCC008 stands apart from the other three models. Its dial is based on a rare variety of silk produced in Gunma Prefecture, with Seiko using a pearl-like coating for added shimmer. The watch is also the only one in the quartet to pair its dial with a pink-gold-coloured case. This is joined by the regular-production HCC001, HCC002, and HCC003, offered in shironeri white, wakatake-iro green, and sakura-iro pink, respectively.
The four models also bring in a new size for the series. Measuring 38mm in diameter and 12.9mm thick, it sits between the 36mm three-handers and the larger 40.2mm Presage Classic Series date display watches. The HCC008 looks pretty elegant with a steel case finished in pink-gold-coloured plating, while the HCC001, HCC002, and HCC003 use stainless steel cases with Seiko’s super-hard coating. All four feature a see-through screwed caseback and offer 100-metre water resistance.
Powering the quartet is Seiko’s in-house calibre 6R51, which runs at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations/hour and delivers a generous 72 hours of power reserve. The HCC001 and HCC002 are fitted with a stainless steel bracelet with a super-hard coating and a deployment clasp with push-button release. Meanwhile, the HCC003 and limited-edition HCC008 come on dark brown leather straps secured by a three-fold clasp. The HCC008’s dark brown strap is based on the brick facade of the Tomioka Silk Mill, while the HCC003’s strap colour comes from the trunk of the cherry tree. Both straps use leather sourced from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries.
The new Presage Classic Series Tomioka silk models will be available from July 2026. Limited to 2,000 pieces, the HCC008 is priced at EUR 1,200. The bracelet-equipped HCC001 and HCC002 retail for EUR 1,050, while the leather-strap HCC003 comes in at EUR 1,030.
