Seiko 5 Sports Launches a Limited Edition with Honda, Celebrating the Iconic Motocompo

The most accessible range of the Japanese manufacturer, the Seiko 5 Sports series, is wide, to say the least. Offering everything from classic dive-inspired models to compact field watches, Seiko also uses this platform to be more creative and introduces some rather unexpected collaborations. Think, for instance, Pepsi-styled watches actually made with Pepsi, a pink watch made with The Pink Panther or a yellow version with Mooneyes… Talking about yellow dials, the brand’s latest collaboration certainly isn’t shy of using this colour, as the new reference HDB010 partners with Honda to celebrate the 45th anniversary of another icon of accessible fun: the compact, lightweight Motocompo motorcycle. 

Let’s first talk about the Motocompo, an icon of urban mobility. Although not the most advanced or performing two-wheeler on the market, the Motocompo is a significant creation. Released by Honda in 1981, the Motocompo had a compact, lightweight body with a dry weight of 42 kg, powered by a 49 cc, 2.5 horsepower two-stroke engine, and was equipped with foldable handlebars and footrests, as well as leak-proof mechanisms for fuel, engine oil, and the battery. The idea was that it could easily be folded and loaded into cars, thus creating a new six-wheeled lifestyle that combined the comfort of a four-wheeled vehicle with the manoeuvrability of a two-wheeler by allowing it to be stored in the trunk of the “City” car, revealed at the same time as the Motocompo. Not a fast two-wheeler, but a fun one for sure, with a very distinctive design.

To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Motocompo, Japanese brands Seiko and Honda have released the HDB010 limited edition, a watch based on the compact Seiko 5 Sports Mid-Field Collection. Using the same 36.4mm diameter, 12.5mm thick and 44.4mm lug-to-lug steel case, it is distinguished by its matte black hard coating and a black crown with the word “TURN” engraved on its side – inspired by the design of the fuel cock. A Hardlex crystal protects the dial, and a mineral glass with dedicated logos is used on the back. Water-resistance is rated at 100m.

The dial of the Motocompo HDB010 Limited Edition carries several references to the compact scooter, starting with the obvious yellow colour. The dial features embossed black Arabic numerals and luminous hour markers, as well as a transversal black bar with the Honda logo, just like the protective side bars on the motorbike. A fun touch: the Automatic logo uses the same font as the one used for the Motocompo logo. A day-date display adds functionality, with matching black discs.

Inside the case is the tried-and-tested calibre 4R36, an automatic movement running at 3Hz with a 41-hour power reserve. Finally, the black nylon strap is also inspired by the Motocompo and the attachment point used to secure the scooter to a car with a strap, as the loops bear the inscription “Carrying Point” and the tip of the strap is marked “insertion Point”.

A limited edition of 8,000 pieces, available from September 2026, the Seiko 5 Sports x Honda Motocompo HDB010 will be delivered in a special box designed to resemble the corrugated carton used to ship the Motocompo.
