The Time Sonar-Inspired Seiko 5 Sports HUF Limited Edition SRPM09
A limited-edition collaboration model with lifestyle brand HUF, mixing bright green and Time Sonar inspiration.
In the ever-growing Seiko 5 Sports collection, there are classic models and then some pretty cool limited editions, either inspired by the past or produced in collaboration with brands or franchises that have not much to do with watchmaking (at least at first sight). That can be anything from Pepsi bezel watches actually made together with Pepsi, a pink dive-inspired compact watch made with Pink Panther, and then collabs with Bruce Lee, Peanutsor Mooneys – just to name a few. The latest of these special edition watches to be released, the Seiko 5 Sports SRPM09, is a pretty cool, pretty green vintage-inspired watch, based on the Time Sonar concept, and made with lifestyle brand HUF.
Founded in 2002 by professional skateboarder Keith Hufnagel, HUF is a lifestyle brand rooted in the spirit of skateboarding and street culture. Originally launched as a shop with a curated mix of brands, HUF evolved into a full-fledged label expressing its founder’s vision of skateboarding and street culture. Today, HUF has grown into a highly respected lifestyle brand, earning recognition across a wide range of fields. And as you can guess from the main colour used on this new SRPM09, HUF’s signature tonality is… green.
Contrary to previous watches based on this vintage “Time Sonar” inspiration (which we’ve explained in this article), which all featured a rotating bezel, the new HUF Limited Edition SRPM09 keeps things clean with a more compact, symmetrical case and a sleek, polished bezel. Made of polished and brushed stainless steel, the case measures 39.4mm in diameter, 11.6mm in thickness and 48.1mm lug-to-lug – classic mid-range proportions for 5 Sports watches. The rest is known, such as a Hardlex crystal on top (still no sapphire, sorry…), a screwed caseback with green-tinted mineral crystal and a graphic inspired by San Francisco, the city where HUF was founded, and a 100m water-resistance with a push-pull crown.
The dial is the main attraction here. Using HUF’s design language and Time Sonar inspiration, we’re treated to a semi-transparent dial in bright neon green, which gives a view of the day-date mechanism underneath. The dial is decorated with applied markers, including an orange triangle at 12 o’clock (to match the orange seconds hand), and a central black section that frames the calendar indications. The handset is identical to previous Time Sonar models and is filled with LumiBrite.
Under the see-through caseback is the tried-and-tested in-house, automatic calibre 4R36, a workhorse movement beating at a 3Hz frequency and delivering about 41h of power reserve. The watch is worn on a 3-link steel bracelet with a folding clasp and is delivered in a special stainless steel box.
A limited run of 7,000 pieces, the Seiko 5 Sports HUF Limited Edition SRPM09 will be available in March 2026 and priced at EUR 410. For more details, please visit www.seikowatches.com.
