The Seiko 5 Sports DENHAM Limited Edition SRPL35
A collaboration with Amsterdam-based DENHAM results in an affordable blue jeans-themed diver.
Everyone likes a good collaboration and Seiko found a cool partner with DENHAM, an Amsterdam-based premium denim/blue jeans maker. The existing Seiko 5 SKX series served as the base for this new SRPL35 limited-edition piece, which brings clear DENHAM inspiration while preserving what makes this Seiko 5 Sports so popular. The changes are cosmetic but bring a significant visual punch that differentiates it from other models. And it’s not just colour tweaks as thoughtful design elements really reflect the DENHAM brand.
The stainless steel case, reminiscent of the discontinued SKX007 icon, is unchanged at 42.5mm in diameter and 13.4mm in height (lug-to-lug 46mm), but the unidirectional rotating bezel has a shade of indigo that’s unique to this watch. Variances of this colour will appear a couple more times below. The guarded crown is in its familiar 4 o’clock position and a curved Hardlex crystal protects the dial. The exhibition caseback has “THE TRUTH IS IN THE DETAILS” printed on the glass, along with DENHAM’s scissors logo. The serial number (1-2,000) is also printed on the steel rim, as the watch is limited to 2,000 pieces. Water resistance is 100 metres. The watch is fitted with a 22mm indigo nylon strap with yellow stitching, resembling denim.
The indigo dial has several unique features, starting with black indices framed in silver and a triangular mark at 12 o’clock that’s not inverted with DENHAM’s scissors logo inside. The hour and arrow minute hands have LumiBrite inserts, while the lollipop seconds hand is red to symbolize the red rivets on DENHAM denim. A white day/date window sits at 3 o’clock, while a simple yellow track spans an angled flange at the perimeter to mimic denim stitching (like the strap).
Powering the Seiko 5 Sports DENHAM Limited Edition is the familiar calibre 4R36 from the SKX series, Seiko’s in-house automatic with 24 jewels, a beat rate of 21,600vph (3Hz) and a 41-hour power reserve. Functions include central hours, minutes, hacking seconds and day/date calendar. The movement debuted in 2011 and is an upgrade to calibre 7S36 with hacking seconds and manual winding.
The Seiko 5 x DENHAM collaboration watch (SRPL35) is limited to 2,000 pieces and retails for EUR 450 or GBP 390, with availability starting in November 2024. For more information, please visit www.seikowatches.com.

Why is the strap not made of… Perhaps, Denim??? Wake up Marketing…
Response from Marketing: “No, it’s fine when they purchase real Denim straps from Timex. So we don’t have to figure out how to make them.”
Why we need to see date and almost the day in such a beautiful dial?
Designers must think a lot for dials when they add a lot of signs in them.
