RJ Romain Jerome unveils the Deep Blue Octopus, a marine timepiece inspired by the mysterious cephalopod. We take a look at this new offbeat creation from the Geneva-based manufacturer.
With eight arms bearing suction cups, camouflaging skin, otherworldly appearance, sentient look… Octopuses have captivated and inspired mankind since we first explored the oceans. RJ Romain Jerome is dedicating its latest creation to this animal both fascinating and rich in symbolism.
The RJ Romain Jerome Deep Blue Octopus features a 47mm black PVD steel reproducing the bilateral symmetry of the tentacled sea-beast and incorporating several of its aesthetical features. The interior of the rubber strap features cool octopus-like suction cups. The number 8 is used across many features (number of screws, water resistant to 888 feet, etc.)
Another detail inspired by the sea is the dial that is textured to remind an urchin test (their hard shell / skeletal structure). Its relief has been filled with luminescent material. In its centre, a black DLC-coated copper Octopus is applied.
The crown at 9 o’clock allows to adjust the time or wind the automatic movement; the second one of 3 o’clock is used to rotate the internal unidirectional rotating bezel (in sapphire) to keep track of elapsed time.
The RJ Romain Jerome Deep Blue Octopus is released in a 25-piece limited edition and retails for CHF 19’950. For more information, visit www.romainjerome.ch.
