It all started with ref. 7042, and the Longines Legend Diver has been around, in one form or another, since 1959, and over the past years, the brand with the Winged Hourglass logo has wisely chosen evolution over reinvention. New sizes, updated movements, fresh dial colours, but always within the frame of what makes the Legend Diver instantly recognisable and lovable. This latest green-on-green edition isn’t a new watch, just a new reference, a subtle refresh, defined primarily by the addition of a green rubber strap that shifts the watch’s character.

The new reference is the same compact and balanced Legend Diver 39mm introduced in 2023. Measuring 47mm lug-to-lug and 12.7mm thick, the brushed and polished stainless steel case is topped with a domed box sapphire crystal, adding retro charm. The screw-down steel caseback, as always, features the embossed diver image. The LLD’s defining element remains the dual-crown configuration, a layout based on the Super Compressor design from the late 1950s, even if its engineering has moved away from the original EPSA case construction. Positioned at 2 and 4 o’clock, the screw-down crowns control the internal rotating bezel and the time-setting functions, respectively. The functionality remains solid with a 300m water resistance, and the aesthetic is unmistakable.

The dial comes in a rich lacquered green. The colour is not new; we’ve seen a green-dialled variant before, released alongside the terracotta and anthracite grey LLDs in 2024, but here it feels more cohesive thanks to the matching strap. The no-date layout remains, with raised Arabic numerals at the cardinal points, elongated markers, and an inclined, colour-matched internal bezel featuring a dotted track with numerals at 15, 30, 45, and 60 marked with a triangle. Super-LumiNova ensures legibility in low light.

The watch is powered by the Longines exclusive calibre L888.6, an automatic movement based on ETA A31.L11 but upgraded. It runs at 25,200 vibrations/hour and delivers a steady 72-hour power reserve. It also features a silicon balance spring that improves resistance to magnetism well beyond standard requirements and is COSC-chronometer certified.

While the overall specifications remain, the strap, fitted with a diver’s pin buckle, defines this new Longines Legend Diver reference. Replacing the steel bracelet with the green rubber strap is a minor change, but it significantly alters the watch’s personality. The Legend Diver is often liked for its vintage appeal; on a rubber strap, it does not lose any, yet feels more contemporary, more casual, and now even more aligned with actual use as a dive watch.

And that’s really the point of this release, showing how a simple change can refresh a familiar watch. The green-on-green execution is coherent, slightly bolder, yet much more respectful of the original design. Part of the permanent collection, this new variant is priced at EUR 3,400.
