The New Panerai Luminor Luna Rossa PAM01653 and PAM01654

Panerai maintains its presence in high-performance sailing, offering watches that reflect the spirit of the America’s Cup.

Panerai strengthens its partnership with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team ahead of the 38th America’s Cup and unveils two new watches that highlight performance-driven engineering and signature design: the Luminor Chrono Flyback Luna Rossa PAM01654 and the Luminor Luna Rossa PAM01653. These models continue a collaboration that began in 2019, when Panerai first joined the prestigious sailing team as an official timekeeper and follows earlier Luna Rossa editions known for blending advanced materials, technical innovation and signature design.

The new Luna Rossa releases fuse the rugged identity of the Luminor collection with the aesthetics of elite competitive sailing. The PAM01654 once again brings a flyback chronograph into the Luna Rossa line (too bad it doesn’t have the regatta function), while the simpler PAM01653 offers a time-and-date layout. Both models are equipped with Luna Rossa-branded textile-and-rubber straps and feature the logo on a matte grey dial.

Luna Rossa Chrono PAM01654

The Luminor Chrono Flyback Luna Rossa PAM01654 comes in a 44mm case made of Grade 5 titanium for strength and corrosion resistance and significantly reduced weight. Brushed surfaces on the case contrast with a polished titanium bezel. The signature Luminor crown guard reinforces the look; the red-accented pushers on the left harmonise with the red-painted chronograph hands. Water resistance is rated at 100m. Sapphire crystals on both the front and back provide protection and visibility into the movement.

The grey sandwich dial with a matte finish offers good legibility with white Super-LumiNovaX1 treated indices and hands and red chronograph accents. A central red chronograph seconds and jumping minutes counter hands ensure precision in elapsed time tracking. Subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock display the chronograph hour counter and running seconds, respectively. The nautical tachymeter scale is printed on the inclined inner flange.

Powering the watch is the automatic Panerai calibre P.9100, the brand’s in-house chronograph movement featuring a vertical clutch, column wheel, and flyback functionality. The chronograph resets and restarts instantly via the pusher at 8 o’clock. Operating at 28,800 vibrations/hour, the 302-component movement includes twin barrels for a 72-hour power reserve and uses a self-locking ball-bearing rotor for efficient winding. The movement is equipped with a free-sprung Glucydur balance and Incabloc shock protection.

The watch is delivered with a bi-material black rubber and grey textile strap featuring a red Luna Rossa stripe, a Grade 2 titanium buckle, and an additional black rubber strap. The Panerai Luminor Chrono Flyback Luna Rossa PAM01654 is a limited edition of 150 pieces; the price is EUR 15,900 (VAT included).

Luna Rossa PAM01653

For a more restrained take on the Luna Rossa spirit, Panerai also introduces the Luminor Luna Rossa PAM01653. It’s a more accessible, time-only model housed in a 44mm case crafted from AISI 316LVM stainless steel, a premium alloy remelted for maximum purity and superior corrosion resistance.

The minimalist grey sandwich dial features white Super-LumiNova indices and hands and the Luna Rossa logo at 6 o’clock, with a red-coloured running seconds hand circling the subdial at 9 o’clock, and the steel case, like its titanium sibling, is water-resistant to 10 bar (100 meters).

Inside is the hand-wound calibre P.6000, offering three days of power reserve, a stop-seconds mechanism, and a 21,600 vibrations/hour beat rate. Its traversing balance bridge ensures greater stability and precision.

This model also has the same bi-material Luna Rossa strap and a second rubber strap, completing its versatile, sporty, casual look. The price, significantly lower than the chrono, is fixed at EUR 6,700 (VAT included). For more information, visit panerai.com.
