Swiss watchmakers are ushering in Chinese New Year with exclusive limited-edition models inspired by zodiac animals and Asian cultural traditions. To celebrate the year 2025, which is believed to bring personal growth, strategic planning and embrace transformation, Oris releases a special Year of the Snake timepiece, a modern, highly technical 44mm watch featuring a skeletonized dial and equipped with an in-house developed calibre. The ProPilot X Calibre 115, introduced in 2019, was a transformative moment for Oris, setting a new direction for the brand with its robust design and technical prowess later seen in more classic versions. The Oris ProPilot X Year of the Snake retains the strength and innovation of the original while introducing unique decorative elements to honour the zodiac theme.

The ProPilot X Year of the Snake features a 44mm multi-piece brushed titanium case, water-resistant to 100 meters and topped with a double-domed sapphire crystal. This powerful design later came in more compact watches, some of them with rather expressive dials. A titanium screwed display caseback with a fluted edge that echoes the bezel’s design hosts Year of the Snake engravings. The big screw-in crown is flanked by protective guards, ensuring durability and integrated lugs are designed to provide comfort. While introducing vibrant new colours, the ProPilot X Year of the Snake maintains its monochromatic predecessor’s confident spirit.

The skeletonized dial of the ProPilot X Year of the Snake – its chapter ring, adorned with Super-LumiNova-treated hour indices, which pairs with a running seconds sub-dial at 7:30 and a power reserve scale at 3 o’clock – is finished in vibrant green, creating a bold contrast against the monochromatic backdrop of the hand-wound movement beneath. While the handset remains consistent with the design of the regular ProPilot X Calibre 115 model, this special edition introduces a distinctive touch; the golden power reserve indicator hand is cleverly shaped like a snake’s tongue, adding a thematic connection to the Year of the Snake.

This new ProPilot X uses the brand’s in-house developed calibre 115 movement – based on the calibre 110, and later 111, 112 or 114. This hand-wound engine offers an impressive 10-day power reserve stored in a single barrel and its standout feature is a non-linear power reserve indicator, where the dedicated hand slows its movement as the stored energy is used. The movement operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations/hour and is constructed with 38 jewels.

The watch is worn on a matching titanium bracelet with a brushed finish, exuding a cohesive and refined aesthetic. The bracelet is secured with a folding clasp equipped with a lift system for effortless handling. Limited to 88 pieces, the Oris ProPilot X Year of the Snake is priced at EUR 8,200 or USD 9,100 and is available for purchase. For more, visit Oris.ch.
