The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date, now in Steel with 36mm or 40mm case sizes
While we’ve already introduced the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date in bronze with a 36mm case, there are other novelties regarding the Pointer Date that Oris is introducing at Baselworld 2018. Alongside the bronze edition, Oris will also release some steel versions of the Pointer Date watch, this time in 40mm and 36mm cases, as well as with steel bracelets or leather straps – and again with an unbeatable quality/price ratio. Overview.
While the bronze version of the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date will certainly be one of the main talking pieces for the brand at Baselworld 2018, there are also some more rational steel versions. This watch is based on a limited edition launched mid-2017 – the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date D.26 286 HB-RAG – which reintroduced one of Oris’ most famous designs, the 1984 Pointer Date watch, which in turn was based on a 1938 design. No more limitations now, the Pointer Date is back in the collection with various options. Below, some of the 36mm versions:
First, the case is made of stainless steel, with brushed and polished surfaces, as well as the signature notched bezel, found on most of the Big Crown watches. Two options will be available for this regular version of the Big Crown Pointer Date offered in diameters of 40mm and 36mm. Both share the exact same design, with a curved profile and highly domed sapphire crystal. Both will also be available with seven-link steel bracelets or naturally tanned leather straps with a stainless steel pin buckle for a slightly more vintage feel. Below, some of the 40mm versions:
Regarding the dial of these new steel Oris Big Crown Pointer Date, it all depends on the diameter chosen. The 40mm version will be available with a classic black dial, as well as an attractive new grey-blue dial. The 36mm version will also be offered in black, as well as with a light green dial – the same one featured in the bronze edition. On both versions, the hours and minutes are indicated by cathedral pilot hands and feature a central seconds hand. The main specificity of the Oris Pointer Date is its central indication of the current day, with the date printed on the periphery of the dial.
Inside the case, and visible through the case back is the Oris Cal. 754, based on Sellita SW 200-1, with a pointer date function. It shows Oris’ signature red oscillating weight. Both the 36mm and 40mm models of Steel Oris Big Crown Pointer Date will be priced at CHF 1,550 on a leather strap and CHF 1,750 on a stainless steel bracelet. More details on www.oris.ch.
