If you ever had doubts about it, the Olympic Games are getting closer and closer… And, as so many times in the past, Omega will be the official timekeeper of Paris 2024. But today’s topic, even though related to one of the sports that will be represented in the French capital city, isn’t about the Olympics. Today, Omega introduces a new edition of its classic 41mm Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m, inspired by one of the greatest athletes in the history of pole vaulting, 8-time world record breaker and current Olympic champion Armand “Mondo” Duplantis… And looking at the new colour scheme, you can easily understand that he comes from Sweden.

Quite literally an athlete at the top of his sport, Armand Duplantis the current World and Olympic champion, but on April 20th, he broke the World Record for the 8th time in his career, setting a new height of 6.24m. An ambassador of Omega since 2020, he has since claimed multiple World and European Championships titles, and won his first Olympic Games gold medal in Tokyo. It is time for Omega to pay tribute to his already impressive career, with a special edition of the AT 150m that elegantly blends the colours of the Swedish flag in its nautical attire.

Mondo Duplantis’ watch is based on a classic of Omega, the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Co-Axial Master Chronometer 41mm. A nice blend of casualness and robustness, this watch is here presented in stainless steel with the classic attributes of the collection – twisted “lyre” lugs, polished bezel and conical screwed crown. Despite the 41mm diameter and 13.2mm height, it remains relatively compact on the wrist, just under 48mm in length.

What makes this Armand Duplantis edition special is the dial. While the blue surface is given a traditional opaline finish with horizontal stripes, the unique tributes to Mondo include a Seamaster name and quarter-hour numbers in yellow, as well as a yellow varnished seconds hand with a pole vault-inspired shape, featuring Super-LumiNova on top to represent the grip of the pole. All other elements of the dial are otherwise classic Aqua Terra.

Inside the case, and under the sapphire caseback, is the calibre 8900. This in-house automatic Master Chronometer-certified movement is known for its dual-barrel architecture (60h power reserve) and practical time-zone feature on the hour hand. It’s also highly antimagnetic and precise, with its co-axial escapement.

The final touch comes from the rubber strap, once again inspired by the colours of Sweden. It’s done in blue with yellow stitching and closed by a folding clasp. Now available from the brand, the Duplantis-inspired Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 41mm (reference 220.12.41.21.03.009) is priced at EUR 6,900, CHF 5,900 or USD 6,300. 1. A lot of money for not a lot of watch or customization. If you want an AT plenty to choose from in the grey market at deflated prices!

  2. Wow, Déjà vu? No, just another cash cow demonstration. But a brilliant one. Now, every wannabe James Bond can also be a Swede. Check for 231.10.42.21.03.004.
