Robert Downey Jr., a.k.a. Iron Man, is well-known for being a watch aficionado, and in particular, a fan of URWERK watches. RDJ has been spotted wearing several of the brand’s watches on screen and in real life. Over the past years, three watches worn by RDJ were auctioned for charity, with proceeds going to Random Act Funding, a charitable organisation founded by Susan and Robert Downey. Early next week, a very special UR-105 TA Raging Gold, the watch that RDJ had with him throughout the production of the Avengers Endgame movie, will be offered through an online auction. Proceeds will be split between the Radamon Act Funding and, with the support of Ethos (URWERK’s commercial partner in India), an NGO COVID-19 relief charity in India.
Initially launched in 2014, the UR-105 is URWERK through and through: bold, technical, space-age indie watchmaking. It displays the time using the brand’s concept of wandering hours in which revolving hour satellites travel across a 60-minute arc. On the back of the UR-105 TA, turbines control the self-winding system. A lever can trigger three winding positions: full-speed winding, reduced winding (to avoid excessive tension in the mainspring) and ‘stop’ to disengage the automatic winding and switch to manual winding. The “Raging Gold” version combines a textured guilloché bezel and a black PVD titanium back. In addition, this pretty unusual version features a special RDJ engraving.
From the official URWERK e-shop, you can register an account and bid online for this special timepiece. The auction will go live on June 21st at 4 pm (GMT+2) until 23rd at 4 pm. You can bid live online and set a maximum amount for automatic bidding – so you don’t miss out!
