New Brand OraOrea Debuts with the Coriolis Pointer Date
A new independent brand by Zach Weiss, co-founder of Worn & Wound, debuts with a thoughtfully designed pointer-date watch.
OraOrea is a new independent brand founded by Zach Weiss, best known as co-founder of Worn & Wound and Windup Watch Fair. After years spent analysing, curating and discussing watches, Weiss now steps into product creation with a first model that reflects a collector’s eye for proportion and detail. The OraOrea Coriolis Pointer Date is conceived as an everyday watch with a strong identity, reflecting a personal, design-driven vision.
The OraOrea Coriolis Pointer Date stainless steel case measures 38.5mm in diameter and 12.1mm thick (including the crystal, 9.3mm without). The shape is defined by broad, curved lugs and a relatively compact 45mm lug-to-lug. Construction is more complex than it first appears, with separate components that allow distinct finishes across surfaces. Brushed planes contrast with polished bevels that subtly shift in width along the lugs. A highly domed sapphire crystal, AR and anti-fingerprint coated, adds visual height and softens the overall profile. The flat, 6mm push-pull fluted crown is decorated with the brand’s logo in colour. Water resistance is 100m.
The dial, available in Skyline Silver, Venetus Teal and Rhodium Black, is where the watch gets even more interesting. The Coriolis builds its layered display with concentric rings, using a laser-cut, hand-polished single piece for the hours and minutes/seconds indication. The outer ring features even Roman numerals to mark the hours, then an integrated thin railroad-style minutes/seconds track separates the inner ring with odd Roman numerals. Each hour is additionally marked with a small gold hemisphere, positioned on both sides of the minutes ring.
Closest to the centre, raised above the circular brushed surface, a printed date index with in-house designed numerals offers symmetrical placement. This circular structure serves as the visual anchor, guiding the eye around the dial to discover the fine details. The hands are sharply defined and three-dimensional, with slight colour variation depending on the dial variant.
The OraOrea Coriolis Pointer Date is powered by the Sellita SW386-1, a relatively new automatic calibre derived from the slim SW300 and adapted for a central pointer date. It runs at 28,800, has a 56-hour reserve, and is presented here in a high-grade execution (D4), with upgraded finishing and a customised rotor, visible through the sapphire caseback.
The OraOrea Coriolis Pointer Date is worn on a leather strap, fitted with a pin buckle and quick-release spring bars for convenience. The price is USD 3,950, and deliveries are planned for late 2026. OraOrea mentions that the provided images are of pre-production samples. For more, please visit oraorea.com.
