The New Breguet Reine de Naples 9935 & 8925 for the Brand’s 250th Anniversary

Breguet gold, a new bracelet and a sprinkling of diamonds for the new moon phase and time-only Reine de Naples references.

Celebrating its grand 250^th anniversary, Breguet turns its attention to the Reine de Naples, a women’s collection with a royal backstory and a distinctive oval-shaped case. Fit for a queen, the new moon phase reference 9935 and the time-only 8925 are packed with novelties, a new gold bracelet and a generous sprinkling of diamonds.

As the leading watchmaker of the day, Abraham-Louis Breguet enjoyed the custom of France’s royalty and aristocracy, including Caroline Murat (Queen of Naples), Napoleon Bonaparte’s sister. Considered to be one of the first examples of a wristwatch, Breguet’s 1812 “oblong-shaped repeater watch”, commissioned by the Queen of Naples, was fitted with a dainty wristlet. Inspired by a description of the watch, Breguet launched the Reine de Naples collection in 2002, featuring a distinctive egg-shaped case.

One of the highlights of the anniversary references is the new Breguet gold bracelet. Composed of three polished links, the outer links echo the oval shape of the case, while the central link is round like the prominent lug at 6 o’clock, sparkling with 52 snow-set diamonds. Supple and fluid, the gold bracelet has a triple-blade folding clasp and can be adjusted to the nearest millimetre.

The dreamy moon phase reference comes in a 28.5mm-wide by 36.5mm-long Breguet gold case. Sparkling with the light of 109 brilliant-cut diamonds set in the bezel and flange, the crown at 4 o’clock is set with a large briolette-cut diamond or blue sapphire. The novelty here is the removal of the power reserve indication on the dial, allowing for a larger display of the lunar cycles featured in a crescent-shaped aperture at noon.

Marking another first for the collection, the signature Breguet Arabic numerals at 12, 3, and 9 o’clock are accompanied by six pear-shaped diamonds, as well as a pear-cut diamond or a blue sapphire at noon. True to Breguet’s design language, the small seconds counter is decorated with a hand-guilloché Quai de l’Horloge pattern, the casebands are fluted, and the gold hands are hollow-tipped.

Making its debut with four references, the two-level dial of the blue model features an upper layer of blue aventurine glass and a sliver of iridescent Tahitian mother-of-pearl below, creating an incredible play of light. The white mother-of-pearl model and the spectacular high jewellery model, set with 5.2 carats of diamonds on the case, bracelet, and dial, are paired with the new gold bracelet.

The reverse side reveals the calibre 537L2 with its gilded platinum rotor decorated with a hand-guilloché Petit Trianon motif. Fitted with a flat silicon balance spring and beating at a frequency of 3.5Hz, the movement delivers a 45-hour power reserve.

Reine de Naples 8925

Measuring just 33mm across with a length of 25mm and a thickness of 8.5mm, the proportions of the time-only Reine de Naples are delectably feminine. Displaying just the hours and minutes in an off-centred dial, the three 8925 references all come with the beautiful new Breguet gold bracelet. Diamonds play a starring role, and the case and dial gleam with the light of 207 diamonds.

Available with an 18k Breguet gold dial, a white mother-of-pearl dial or a black lacquered gold dial, the three references uphold the brand’s design heritage with a hand-guilloché Quai de l’Horloge pattern in the off-centred dial, Breguet gold Arabic numerals and hands and a fluted caseband. Powered by the calibre 586/1 with a power reserve of 38 hours, the rotor is decorated with a hand-guilloché Petit Trianon motif.
