The New Mido Multifort TV Chronograph

Step by step, the Multifort TV collection is maturing into a cornerstone range of watches for the brand.

| By Robin Nooy | 3 min read |

Since its debut just two years ago, the Multifort TV collection by Mido has been making quite a splash with its strong presence, solid mechanics and accessible prices. Things started in 2023 with the blue dial Multifort TV Big Date, and since it has become available in a range of colours and finishes, and even a more compact 35mm version (with a regular date display instead of the Big Date one). And Mido isn’t done just yet, since the brand feels it’s now time to add a chronograph to the range. We’re not ones to argue with that logic, so today we check out the new Mido Multifort TV Chronograph series!

When the Multifort TV Big Date was launched, some people quickly judged it to be too close to one of the Big Three luxury sports watches and merely a watch to jump on the bandwagon of this highly popular category. Sadly, the trend today is to speak before thinking, and if those same people had gone beyond the surface for just a little bit, they would learn that the design it’s based on actually pre-dates that of the watch it allegedly looks like! Nevertheless, we can’t ignore (nor blame) it for tapping into one of the hottest segments in the industry for the past few years, but in a way that makes perfect sense on multiple fronts.

In just two years, the Multifort TV became a staple for the brand thanks to its charming retro design, with a typical 1970s TV-shaped case and multi-dimensional gradient dials. With this expansion, Mido continues down the same path as the Tissot PRX, perhaps the most successful launch by a Swatch Group brand in years. First, an automatic, then different colours, followed by different sizes and finally, a chronograph.

The design follows that of its Big Date predecessor, yet the dimensions have grown to 41.20mm long (at the bezel) by 42mm wide and 14.4mm thick for the rounded square case. This comes with the signature bezel protrusions and recessed dot at noon, while the screw-down crown is now flanked by a pair of pushers. The sapphire crystal follows the shape of the case and bezel, while around the back, a circular sapphire crystal reveals the movement.

For the dial, Mido opted for something we know from previous non-chronograph editions of the Multifort TV range. It’s available in classical blue, with a subtle gradient to black towards the outer edge, or in a grey-to-black gradient. Steel and blue is a very safe bet, but it offers great style and legibility thanks to polished steel hands and white markings all around. The grey/black dial spices things up a little with a tachymeter scale (and other details) in yellow instead of white, and mostly black hands with Super-LumiNova. As ever, the dial gets a real sense of depth thanks to horizontal grooves, raised hour markers and a framed date window (which has now shifted to 04:30).

Power comes from the Mido Calibre 60, which is also found in other chronographs in the brand’s portfolio. This is based on the Swatch Group’s ETA A05.231 automatic chronograph, which is in turn a much-improved version of the emblematic Valjoux 7750. Among the upgrades, the power reserve is a generous 60 hours, whereas in the past it would have been limited to 48 hours. The finishing is fairly decent, with perlage on the mainplate, brushing on the openworked rotor, blued screws and so on.

Availability & Price

Mido offers the Multifort TV Chronograph on a stainless steel bracelet with polished centre links, a folding clasp and quick-release push pins similar to its Big Date siblings. In addition to that, you also get a blue or black synthetic fabric strap with a pin buckle. The price is set at CHF 2,270 or EUR 2,490 for either of them, which is quite fair given the solid specs it brings to the table!
