MeisterSinger City Edition 2018 – 58 Different Watches Representing Major World Cities

The MeisterSinger No. 3 gets a urban touch!

| By Erik Slaven | 2 min read |

MeisterSinger is following up on last year’s No. 01 City Edition, which represented 45 different cities in an equal number of limited edition watches. The company is known for having single hand dials that actually make up its entire portfolio, which is unique among watch brands. It’s now bringing 58 City Edition pieces for 2018 to represent 58 different cities or countries around the world, from New York to Munich to The Hague.

MeisterSinger has collaborated with various worldwide jewellers to decorate the exhibition glass backs of each edition, displaying silhouettes of landmarks or skylines of specific locations. Each city or country name is engraved on the steel caseback, with some cities having an additional aphorism. For example, Stockholm has “The Venice of the North” engraved as well. Several editions also represent entire countries (unlike last year’s city-only editions), with Portugal featuring a stylized guitar, for example (for the Fado genre of music). There are also “Round Table International” models with a focus on the global community.

Last year’s City Edition series was based on MeisterSinger’s No. 01 piece, its most classical model with a 40mm diameter case. This year’s series is based on its No. 3 piece with a 43mm case and dial that’s been modified specifically for the special editions. A circular, magnified date window has been added above 6 o’clock, which differentiates the series from the standard 43mm No. 3 dials that lacked the date complication (the 40mm No. 3 models have a non-magnified date window). The single hand is also different on the City Editions, with a blue hue that matches the typography (numerals and City Edition) on a sand grey dial. All watches are water-resistant to 50m.

The movements on the City Edition 2018 watches are either a Swiss ETA 2824-2 or a Sellita 200-1 automatic, with the Sellita basically being a more readily available version of the ETA. The Sellita has 26 jewels (ETA has 25) and both beat at 28,800vph (4Hz) with a 38-hour power reserve. The rotors have also been decorated with Geneva stripes.

The casebacks are the stars of the show, with partner jewellers printing their respective city (or country) silhouette on the exhibition glass. The dials simply have City Edition printed above the date window, so you have to flip the watch around to see the specific location. A vintage saddle leather strap comes standard on all City Edition models, which will be sold exclusively at MeisterSinger partner jewellers in limited quantities at a price of EUR 1,750.
