Three New Colours for the Longines Legend Diver 39mm
Fresh dial colours for the recently revamped and highly desirable LLD.
The Super-Compressor Longines Diver ref. 7042 launched in 1959 and has since become an ambassador of sorts for the aquatic sports collection. Traditionally sized at 42mm with or without a date window, a more compact 39mm no-date variant debuted in 2023 and quickly became a fan favourite. This came with two lacquered dial colours, blue and black, and an updated automatic movement. This year, Longines adds three dial colours to its recently updated LLD and otherwise maintains the updates from the prior year. This celebrates the Legend Diver’s 65th anniversary and offers the perfect middle ground between the 42mm and the (women’s) 36mm option.
The Super-Compressor design (but not the original Piquerez EPSA case construction) features twin crowns and an internal rotating bezel, which is seen on all Legend Divers (since its reintroduction in 2007). The brushed and polished stainless steel case on the 2024 model is very wearable at 39mm in diameter and 12.7mm in height (47mm lug-to-lug), and offers a pro-level depth rating of 300 metres. It also follows the ISO 6425 requirement of a +25% excess pressure test.
A retro boxed-shape sapphire crystal protects the dial and the solid caseback features an embossed scuba diver. The crown at 2 o’clock rotates the internal diver’s bezel, while the 4 o’clock crown sets the time and winds the movement, and both screw down. The watch comes fitted with a 20mm beads-of-rice steel bracelet with a double-safety folding clasp and micro-adjustment holes.
New on the Longines Legend Diver 39mm are three new polished lacquered dials in green, terracotta and anthracite grey, increasing the dial options to a total of five (with black and blue from 2023). Raised Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock are coated with Super-LumiNova, along with segmented indices every five minutes. The rhodium-plated arrow hour and minute hands also have Super-LumiNova inserts, while the seconds hand has a lume aperture that traditionally confirms that the watch is running during low light dives. The bidirectional internal rotating bezel has a 60-minute scale and matches the dial colour. As mentioned, the dial lacks a date window.
Powering the 39mm Legend Diver is the COSC-certified L888.6 automatic. It has 21 jewels, beats at 25,200vph (3.5Hz) and comes with a 72-hour power reserve (up from 60 hours with the 42mm time/date model and calibre L888.5). It features a silicon balance spring for magnetic resistance (ISO 764) and functions are limited to central hours, minutes and hacking seconds. It’s based on the ETA A31.L11 and is exclusive to Longines.
The three new dial colours for the 2024 Longines Legend Diver 39mm retail for EUR 3,650 along with the two classic models. For more information, please visit the Longines website.
