The Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll with a Mesmerising Chrysocolla Dial

Evoking the ever-changing colours of the sea, the latest 39mm Diver flaunts a stunning neon green and blue stone dial.

| By Rebecca Doulton | 2 min read |

Ulysse Nardin has always been associated with the sea, from its early days as a purveyor of precision marine chronometers to its current nautical-inspired collection, which includes classical references like the Marine Torpilleur or more contemporary, high-performance Divers. Offered in three case sizes, the more compact 39mm model returns with a stunning mottled neon blue and green stone dial.

Released in 2021 as part of a trilogy, the 39mm Diver has appeared with gem-set bezels, like this tutti-frutti Diver Rainbow and diamond-set bezels on the Diver Starry Night. The latest reference has a 39mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 11mm and contrasting brushed and polished finishings. In line with the Diver collection’s commitment to sustainability, 80% of the steel used for the case is recycled.

The case and its closed caseback ensure a solid 300m water-resistance, and the unidirectional rotating bezel with a 60-minute scale sparkles with the light of 40 brilliant-cut diamonds.

Evoking the ever-changing colours of the sea, the dial is made from chrysocolla, a relatively abundant silicate mineral with striking swirls of blue, turquoise and green and speckles of coppery brown. Each dial is cut by hand and is a one-off thanks to the stone’s unique patterning.

Following the style of earlier editions of the Diver, the dial is set with 11 diamond indices. Designed as a versatile and resilient everyday watch, there is a round date aperture carved into the stone dial at 6 o’clock. The central hands, including the lollipop seconds hand, are treated with luminescent material, as is the applied marker at noon.

The sealed caseback, decorated with an engraving of a wind rose, protects the in-house automatic movement UN-816 with its 42-hour power reserve. As a brand that put silicium technology on the watchmaking map, the movement has a silicon escapement wheel and anchor.

  1. Ulysses Nardin has lost its mojo! First: the The Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll is too large and too ridiculous. The last place I would wear the The Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll is diving in salt or fresh water, or wearing the The Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll on the streets of New York, Los angles…..or even is Seattle is an invitation to get mugged for one’s Ulysse Nardin Diver diamond encrusted Atoll watch. The diamonds incrusted is a shout out (invitation) for someone to steal your watch.Probably the remedy would be to have body guards paid for by Ulysses Nardin every time one steps out of his or her house to go diving (an oxymoronic idea) with his or her diamond incrusted The Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll Watch. Last: The The Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll is way overpriced!!!!
