Ralph Lauren’s passion for watches is no secret. Launched in 2008, his first watches illustrated how his taste in timepieces tends towards the vintage and the classic. The newest addition to the Polo collection of timepieces captures the designer’s desire to produce beautiful timepieces with a well-defined character and an enduring sense of style. Vintage-inspired, classic yet unconventional, the latest Ralph Lauren watch is brimming with character. The new Polo 67 (Ralph Lauren started the brand in 1967 with a neckwear line) feels inspired by the elegance of a bygone era. Its nostalgic retro-chic style is conveyed by a quirky 40mm cushion-shaped case and the patina of its aged steel. The watch is well proportioned, and the shape has character without being garish. The retro-inspiration is further enhanced by an onion crown and a box sapphire crystal slightly protruding from the case.
Although the Polo logo is relatively large, the Vintage 1967 opaline silver dial eschews the louder codes of the Polo Player or Polo Bear models. The large stylised Arabic numerals are paired with a thin railroad-style minute track. The spade and whip hands are lacquered in shiny black. Last, the well-proportioned small seconds sub-dial at 6 o-clock stands out with a concentric pattern.
Turning the watch over, the sapphire caseback offers an unimpeded view of the hand-wound movement made with La Joux-Perret (LJP 7380). This large, 30mm calibre is only 2.70mm in height. It runs at 3Hz with a comfortable 90-hour power reserve on two barrels. The decoration is traditional with cotes de Genève and perlage.
The Ralph Lauren Polo 67 is worn on an elegant brown burnished calfskin strap – a bund strap option either in brown or black calfskin is also available. Straps can be exchanged in seconds thanks to the easy-clip spring bar system. The Polo Vintage 67 will be available for purchase at select Ralph Lauren stores and its online shop from the end of October 2022 at a price of EUR 2,460.
