Schwarz Etienne x Kari Voutilainen x The Limited Edition Equals The Roma Synergy Terracotta

The independent watchmaking platform announces a new captivating collaboration.

UK-based independent watchmaking platform The Limited Edition leaves little room for assumptions as to what it is all about. The company is fuelled by a passion for the craft of low-volume, high-creativity watchmaking. Founded by Pietro Tomajer in 2015, it has quickly established itself as a leading specialist in the industry, bringing watchmakers and collectors together through the shared love for indie watchmaking. A love we share as well; without it, MONOCHROME Watches probably wouldn’t have existed. The Limited Edition has previously teamed up with Ophion and Amr Sindi (The Horophile) and now moves to higher echelons with Schwarz Etienne. And just for good measure, industry veteran Kari Voutilainen joins the mix of the Schwarz Etienne Roma Synergy ‘Terracotta’.

Introduced in 2020, Schwarz Etienne normally offers the Roma Synergy in two sizes (39mm or 42mm), but The Limited Edition comes in the smaller 39mm size only. The stainless steel case is entirely polished and shows a rounded bezel and strong lugs with a subtle step in their profile. At 11mm in height, it’s a watch that’s worn with ease in pretty much any environment. A sapphire crystal covers both the front and back, and the knurled crown sits at the classical 3 o’clock position.

Any Roma Synergy is a treat thanks to its dial made in collaboration with Les Ateliers Kari Voutilainen, but this Terracotta edition is perhaps even more special. Finished in a warm terracotta tone, the dial is finished with three different patterns of hand-guilloché. The grey outer chapter ring reveals a wavy “Soleil” (sun) pattern, the centre section is finished with something called “Écaille de Poisson” (fish scales) and the small seconds subdial shows a fine “Vague” (wave) pattern. Combined with the applied hour markers and numerals and the Alpha-type central hour and minute hands, it is a truly refined display of craftsmanship. The final details are the signatures of both Schwarz Etienne and Kari Voutilainen.

Underneath the sapphire crystal “hood” of the Roma Synergy ‘Terracotta’ beats a familiar heart. This Schwarz Etienne ASE 200.00 movement (also used by others like GoS), driven by a micro-rotor, is fully manufactured in-house. Even specialist components such as the regulating organ and hairspring are manufactured in SE’s atelier. Just as on the dial, Les Ateliers Kari Voutilainen is responsible for the decoration, and the bridges are finished with a guilloché pattern and anglage throughout. The movement runs at a frequency of 21,600vph and offers a comfortable 86 hours of power reserve.

The Roma Synergy ‘Terracotta’ by Schwarz Etienne, in collaboration with The Limited Edition, is worn on a grey leather strap with a fine rustic texture and is secured to the wrist with a stainless steel folding clasp. It is presented as a limited edition (obviously) of 20 pieces and is exclusively available through The Limited Edition for a price of GBP 25,900.
