TAG Heuer Goes Bold With The Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Polychrome
An iridescent backdrop for the brand's whirldwind chronograph.
There’s the use of colours, and there’s the use of colours. And TAG Heuer has gone the extra mile to turn the already quite expressive Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon into something that radiates the colours of the rainbow. Using a unique PVD coating technique, the base dial is given a cool rainbow-like appearance, which almost looks like an oil slick under direct sunlight. Fun, expressive, and upholding the Carrera’s signature attributes, this is the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Polychrome limited edition.
The case for this Polychrome limited edition is constructed out of titanium, with a black PVD coating all around. On top sits a fixed bezel with a tachymeter scale, made of carbon fibre. The pull-out crown and chronograph pushers are also machined out of titanium and given the same black PVD coating. The domed and bevelled sapphire crystal on top protects the dial, while the black PVD-coated titanium with sapphire crystal caseback does the same for the movement. The signature faceted Carrera lugs seem to be made of carbon fibre as well but there’s no word from TAG Heuer on this.
Without a doubt, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Polychrome’s party trick is its multi-coloured dial. The base dial is PVD coated using a very special technique to achieve a rainbow-like finish whereas most other PVD treatments result in solid colours. On top of this iridescent dial we find the familiar skeletonized construction with applied indices, rhodium-plated subdials, black outer flange and a view of the one-minute tourbillon in the bottom half. The rhodium-plated hands and indices are finished with Super-LumiNova.
Power comes from the Calibre Heuer 02T, TAG Heuer’s in-house made automatic chronograph movement with a tourbillon escapement. This is driven by a skeletonized central rotor given the same iridescent finish as the base dial on the front of the watch. Using 33 jewels and running at a frequency of 28,800vph, this movement provides 65 hours of autonomy when fully wound. The rest of the movement is finished in black with a light frosted texture, with contrasting rhodium-plated elements, polished screws and an exposed column wheel.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Polychrome is worn on a matte black alligator leather and rubber strap, secured by a black folding buckle with TAG Heuer shield logo. Limited to 150 pieces, this bold and iridescent watch retails for EUR 23,250 and is available as of now.

Hideous. Too big. Way too expensive for a tag.
