TAG Heuer, Porsche, and the Carrera Panamericana are the names that strike a chord with many, whether they’re motorsport or watch enthusiasts. The rich history connecting these three continues to unfold, and this year brings an exciting new chapter. TAG Heuer has just revealed the limited edition Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana, celebrating the partnership between these legendary brands and the 70th anniversary of the Porsche 550 Spyder’s victory in the Panamericana race in 1954. Also, in conjunction with this year’s race, Porsche and TAG Heuer will unveil a one-of-a-kind Porsche in Mexico City, further commemorating their shared legacy with the legendary competition. While we eagerly await the car’s presentation in a few days, we’re thrilled to introduce the Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana now.

In 2023, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Carrera chronograph, TAG Heuer introduced a 42mm Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon featuring a sleek Glassbox design. The new 2024 TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Panamericana edition builds on the foundation of last year’s model but brings a fresh, high-octane twist. While the inaugural 2023 version was a refined and “sophisticated statement piece,” this latest release inspired by the winning 1954 Porsche 550 Spyder exudes an adrenaline-fueled, sportier feel, perhaps to a greater degree than any watch in the Carrera x Porsche collection, the 44mm Carrera Porsche 963 included, or any of the other 42mm Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon references.

The case remains a 100m water-resistant, stainless steel, bezel-free construction, 42mm x 15.1mm, with the domed sapphire Glassbox crystal and exhibition caseback. It also retains the overall design with the crown at 3 o’clock and classic round chronograph pushers, combining brushed and polished finishes, and features an engraved historical Spyder logo on the side and special limited edition engravings on the screw-down caseback. The revamped, bold dial design truly sets the new reference apart, perfectly capturing the thrill and intensity of the race theme.

The skeletonized dial of the Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana, executed in silver with black shimmery chronograph counters at 3 o’clock for minutes and 9 o’clock for hours, is designed to “mirror the wheels of the 550 Spyder.” A rounded black flange hosts the minute/second track, with the Porsche logo printed between 0 and 10 markers. Rhodium-plated, faceted, and polished indices are applied short, and the spaces between them help create a striking image reminiscent of the 1954 Spyder’s wheels.

The one-minute tourbillon, which looks like the three-spoked openworked sportscar steering wheel, is displayed through an aperture at 6 o’clock, and the dial’s dynamic, race-ready aesthetic is further emphasized by yellow lacquered chronograph hands, one centrally mounted and two small within the subdials. The TAG Heuer logo is applied, while the Carrera and Panamericana names are printed for added distinction. Though the rhodium-plated, faceted hour and minute hands with white Super-LumiNova may seem secondary to the chronograph’s aggressive features, they maintain legibility. The sloping inner black flange is marked with yellow Super-LumiNova dots next to hour indices to aid time reading in the dark.

The caseback of the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana unveils the TH20-09 movement, an evolution of the Heuer 02 calibre introduced a few years ago. The calibre TH20 features a new gear train and boasts bi-directional winding via a rotor skeletonized to resemble a steering wheel. This column-wheel chronograph calibre, equipped with a tourbillon regulator, operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a 65-hour power reserve while being a COSC-certified chronometer backed by a five-year guarantee.

The watch is worn on a black perforated calfskin leather strap featuring yellow lining. A finely brushed and polished steel folding clasp with double safety push-buttons ensures a secure fit on the wrist. This limited edition is restricted to 225 pieces, priced at CHF 35,000 and now available for purchase. For more, please visit tagheuer.com.
