The Steel MB&F LM Perpetual Longhorn & LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn For the Brand’s 20 Years

MB&F starts celebrating its 20th anniversary by offering two Longhorn steel editions of groundbreaking timepieces.

In our recent mention of the significant anniversaries watch brands will celebrate in 2025, we couldn’t cover every single milestone – our apologies! However, as MB&F kicks off its 20th year of activity, we are excited to spotlight the brand’s latest releases, which revive the Longhorn lugs design. Back in 2021, to commemorate the 10th anniversary and the conclusion of the LM1 series, MB&F unveiled a one-of-a-kind prototype-based Longhorn LM1 in steel, auctioned as a collector’s piece. This year, Maximilian Büsser and Friends continue to excite with the introduction of the LM Perpetual Longhorn and the LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn, both featuring very similar design language – stainless steel cases, “long horns” elongated lugs, rhodium-plated base, glossy black lacquer sub-dials and blued hands.

Traditional lugs on the left and “longhorn” elongated lugs on the right

LM Perpetual Longhorn

The stainless steel case of this LM Perpetual Longhorn limited release is composed of 69 components and measures 44mm in diameter and 17.5mm in thickness, with water resistance up to 30 meters. While the extended lugs set it apart, the case otherwise retains the familiar elements of the regular editions: four rectangular corrector pushers on the sides, an easy-to-operate crown at 3 o’clock, sapphire crystals on both the front and back, and a refined combination of polished and brushed finishes.

The time and perpetual calendar indications on the MB&F LM Perpetual Longhorn mirror the familiar layout of previous Legacy Machine Perpetual references. Hours and minutes are displayed on the black lacquered subdial at 12 o’clock, while the day, month, and date are presented on circled rings – also black lacquered for this Longhorn edition – appearing to float above the rhodium-treated base plate and the impeccably finished perpetual calendar mechanism, a fully integrated masterpiece of the movement developed by Stephen McDonnell for MB&F.

At the center of the dial is the signature 14mm balance wheel, positioned under a V-shaped bridge and all hands are crafted from blued steel, enhancing the visual sophistication. The LM Perpetual movement, comprising 581 parts, operates at 18,000 vibrations/hour, employs a mechanical processor system for the calendar functions and features a built-in safety mechanism for ease of use. Powering this marvel are double, manually wound mainspring barrels, delivering a good 72-hour power reserve. The watch is paired with a calf leather strap secured by a stainless steel folding buckle. Limited to 20 pieces, this MB&F LM Perpetual Longhorn is priced at CHF 168,000 (excluding VAT).

LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn

Like the LM Perpetual Longhorn, this anniversary timepiece is nearly identical to the previously known editions of LM Sequential Flyback, with a few design elements to distinguish it from the regular LM Sequential series – though “regular” hardly is the word to describe the watch with two independent chronographs within a single movement, with five timing modes, also developed by Stephen McDonnell.

Housed in an 88-component, 44mm x 18.2mm stainless steel case with elongated lugs, the fully integrated dual chronograph flyback mechanism with a Twinverter switch for multiple timing modes – to include independent, simultaneous or split-second timing, sequential or lap-timer and cumulative like used in chess – operates at 21,600 vibrations/hour frequency and has 72 hours of power reserve via double mainspring.

The busy-looking yet incredibly easy-to-understand dial with the balance wheel high above the rest offers hours and minutes display at 6 o’clock, with the left chronograph seconds indicated at 9 o’clock and minutes at 11 o’clock – operated by the start/stop pusher at 10 o’clock and reset/flyback at 8 o’clock. Right chronograph seconds are at 3 o’clock, minutes at 1 o’clock, the start/stop pusher at 2 o’clock, and reset/flyback found at 4 o’clock. The time subdial and subdial rings – smaller for 30-minute counters and larger for 60-second counters are black lacquered, and all hands are blued – including the hand to indicate the power reserve on the movement’s backside.

This LM Sequential Flyback Longhorn offers a previously unseen presentation with the rhodium-plated base, blued hands, and black-coloured subdials. The price is CHF 168,000 (excluding VAT), and MB&F will make only 20 pieces.
