The Rose Gold Version of the De Bethune DB25GMT Starry Varius

A gorgeous travelling companion flying through star-studded blue skies.

De Bethune’s DB25 family can be regarded as the more classical face of the brand, showcasing Denis Flageollet’s passion for traditional watchmaking with a delightful cosmic twist. De Bethune recently unveiled a new version of the DB25GMT Starry Varius in a luxurious rose gold case with its mysterious GMT display signalling time with a rotating sphere.

The GMT Starry Varius can be seen as a sibling of the more complex DB25 World Traveller of 2016. Released in 2021, the DB25GMT was fitted with De Bethune’s 29th calibre and housed in a relatively compact 42mm titanium case, which you can see here. The new DB25 GMT Starry Varius shares identical specifications to the original model but exchanges the colder titanium case for warm rose gold. Measuring 42mm across with a height of 11.8mm, the case is elegantly polished, and the lugs are hollowed.

Three concentric rings relay the local time, home time and date. The uppermost rounded silver flange with classical Arabic numerals and blue minutes dots on the rose track is used to consult local time. With their refined profile, the pink gold hands have curved tips to negotiate the rounded track. The dial then dips noticeably to accommodate the two-tone 24-hour GMT scale and the spherical rose gold and blued steel indicator, modelled on the patented rotating moon phase of the DB15. A raised platform in the centre of the dial with a blued titanium ring bearing golden odd numbers indicates the date with a blued pointer hand. Its interior features a white microlight engraved area with a small gold sun and a Starry Varius sky composed of heat-blued titanium and white gold pins – read here for more details of DB’s Starry Varius sky.

The manual-winding calibre DB2507 can be seen on the caseback with its signature mirror-polished delta-shaped bridge. Packed with De Bethune’s patented technology and innovations, the barrels deliver a 5-day power reserve, and the movement is decorated in signature haute horlogerie style. Time is set via the crown, and a date corrector is on the case at 6 o’clock.
