With the 2024 Paris Olympics in full swing, and Omega being the official timing partner for the entire event, it’s impossible to ignore the brand. Especially when prior to and during the four weeks of epic sports on display, new watches are being released. Following the official 2024 Olympics edition of the Speedmaster Chronoscope and the lovely Bronze Gold version of the CK 859 (shame about the solid caseback though), a colourful new addition Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Ultra-Light could be spotted on the wrist of Omega ambassador Armand “Mondo” Duplantis. This tribute to the Swedish-American pole vaulter, who just cleared 6.25m to set a new Olympic record, has a bright blue-and-yellow colour scheme. Let’s find out more!

Every now and then, Omega quietly releases a new watch and they’ve just done it again. A new colourful iteration of the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Titanium Ultra-Light could be seen on Armand “Mondo” Duplantis’ wrist during his record-breaking pole vault yesterday. Mondo, a brand ambassador since 2020 was already the Olympic champion with a record of 6.02 and has been literally raising the bar since then. Now though, snatching the Olympic gold medal once more, he’s set an incredible new record of 6.25m!

Back in 2021, when Omega launched the Titanium Ultra-Light sub-collection, it marked the first time the brand used Gamma Titanium, an alloy harder and lighter than normal Grade 5 Titanium. Used for the case, bezel, caseback and crown, it pushes down the weight of the watch drastically. For this occasion, Omega chose a blue anodized titanium dial with horizontal grooves, blackened markers and hands and subtle splashes of yellow mixed in with white printing. The cylindrical central seconds hand is varnished in yellow and finished with a white tip, inspired by Mondo’s tool of the trade; the pole vault!

The Calibre 8928 Ti which can be seen through the sapphire crystal caseback, is also crafted from titanium to keep the weight down as much as possible. This too made its debut in 2021, in the first versions of the Ultra-Light. The manual wound movement runs at a rate of 25,200vph, has a 72h running time thanks to twin barrels and comes with Master Chronometer certification as mentioned. The finishing of the plates and bridges reflects the sandblasted finish of the exterior, with the only pops of colour being the rubies and polished screw heads.

This edition of the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Titanium Ultra-Light is worn on a yellow nylon fabric strap with blue rubber end-links in honour of Armand “Mondo” Duplantis’ home country of Sweden. Combined with the Gamma Titanium case and the titanium movement, the overall weight of the watch is just 55 grams. It’s part of the permanent collection and retails for EUR 56,900.

  1. Quite nice; might even have considered it – at a tenth the price!

  2. Nice watch, but absurd price – especially considering the other watches available for that lofty sum.

  3. Nice watch – ridicolous price – the Omega Gods must have fallen on their heads
