Back in 2015, A. Lange & Sohne introduced a brand new Saxonia collection, revamping all the editions, with new dials and new sizes, while keeping the same concept: clean, elegant and restrained dress watches. In the tradition of the Saxonian Manufacture, these watches were all available in white gold or pink gold case, but only with a white dial – to the exception of a special Boutique edition of the manual edition, with an anthracite dial, that we reviewed. The Saxonia collection is now growing, with the addition of new Terra-Brown dials on the A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Automatic.
At the SIHH 2015, A. Lange & Sohne introduced several novelties, including the ultra-exclusive Zeitwerk Minute Repeater or a new version of the iconic Datograph Perpetual. In the middle of these complicated, hyper-desirable watches, the Saxonian Manufacture also introduced something a lot more rational, more accessible to mere mortals but also extremely important for the brand – as being one of the core collections – some new editions of the Saxonia collection. Three watches were concerned (at that time, since the Saxonia Thin has also been revamped in 2016): the small Manual edition, the Automatic and the Dual-TIme. All are sharing the same evolutions, some new and cleaner dials, new indexes, more stylized and longer, and minute tracks, without the applied gold dots. Overall, the evolution was restrained but welcomed, as giving more modernity to the collection.
First only available in white gold or pink gold, both with a silvery white dial and black inscriptions – traditional to the dress watches of the brand – the A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Automatic receives now new Terra-Brown dials, for a warmer, more exclusive look. Thee watches are launched to celebrate the reopening of the Lange Boutique in Ginza, Tokyo (but are not exclusive to this specific boutique, as available worldwide). To the exception of this new colour, which goes together with white indexes and inscriptions, the watch remains the same, meaning a 38.5mm case in 18k white or 18k pink gold. It will be delivered on a dark brown (white gold) or red brown (pink gold) alligator strap, to match with the dial.
These Terra-Brown dial A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Automatic also share the same technics as the normal silvery-white dial versions, meaning that they feature the Calibre L086.1, with automatic winding. The large gold and platinum central rotor powers a single barrels, which provides 72 hours of power reserve when fully wound. The movement displays the hours and minutes on the central axis, as well as a small second at 6. The finishing of this movement is on par with the rest of the manufacture’s production, meaning exquisite (hand-finished bridges, polished bevelled angles, blued screws, engraved balance cock and rotor…). Even if automatic, the movement is rather slim at 3.7mm, which allows these Terra-Brown dial A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Automatic to be thin on the wrist, at 7.8mm only.
The addition of these brown dials to the A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Automatic brings a warmer and more exclusive look to a watch that some could find a bit too shy, in its white edition. Prices should be the same as the other editions, meaning 22,200 Euros in pink gold and 23,200 Euros in white gold. More details on alange-soehne.com.
