The New Jacob & Co. Astronomia Solar Dragon
This new series marks a refined evolution of Jacob & Co.’s mythical theme, balancing extravagant design with technical mastery.

Dragons have become a recurring motif for Jacob & Co., appearing in elaborate Astronomia models such as the 50mm Astronomia Dragon with its double-axis tourbillon or a Mystery Tourbillon Twin Dragons. In 2025, Jacob & Co. refines this formula in a more wearable format, unveiling the Astronomia Solar Dragon.
The Astronomia Solar Dragon case measures 44mm across and 21mm in height, crafted either from 18k rose gold or black DLC-coated titanium, both with solid casebacks and water resistance to 30m. As with every dragon-themed Astronomia, the centrepiece is the sculpture, inspired by the Asian dragon. Each creature is cast in three solid parts of 18k rose gold, engraved, polished, and painted by hand. The process takes several weeks, with artisans shaping scales, claws, and flowing details before applying colour accents to the rose gold versions or a full black DLC coating for the titanium editions.
Coiled around the Astronomia Solar’s movement, the dragon sits less than half a millimetre from the mechanical arms, creating a dramatic interplay of sculpture and horology visible from every angle through the domed sapphire crystal and sapphire caseband. Beneath the dragon lies a titanium baseplate decorated with a star map in gold lettering, rendered in blue for the rose gold models or black for the DLC titanium editions. Rising above the scene is a Jacob-cut, 288-facet gemstone, yellow in the rose gold series and uniquely coloured in each titanium piece, serving as both focal point and signature of the Astronomia Solar collection.
The hand-wound calibre JCAM42, composed of 296 components, is arranged vertically to maximise volume inside the sapphire case. While previous Astronomia movements rotated as a whole, the Solar Dragon’s calibre remains static to preserve the sculptural display. Three arms radiate from the centre: a one-minute flying tourbillon, a skeletonised off-centre time display in rose gold or black DLC titanium, and a magnesium Earth globe that completes a rotation every minute. Beating at 28,800 vibrations/hour, the movement offers a 48-hour power reserve.
The watches are worn on alligator leather straps with matching rose gold or titanium buckles. The Astronomia Solar Dragon rose gold edition is limited to 36 pieces, and the black titanium version is produced as four unique pieces, each with a different central gemstone.

Heh, heh – but where is the kitchen sink?
A dragon’s tongue is not forked, a forked one is a snake! OMG
My response to Melvin:
You clearly don’t know your history. The dragon, who is also the old serpent, comes directly from the Bible. Before the serpent was cursed to crawl on its belly, it had limbs. This watch embodies that imagery.
To me, it is not just fine craftsmanship, but also a philosophically accurate representation of what Satan is, who he is, and what he controls. It represents the power and dominion given over to Satan after he was kicked out of heaven. The dragon covered in gemstones mirrors the biblical description of the devil, once adorned with beauty, yet fallen, who is the controlling God of this world since the fall of man in the garden.
The only thing I would change concerning the design is the black dragon. I would remove the limbs, to make it representative of Satan’s fallen state, and I would offer for two colors for the gemstone, green and red, but I would only allow red with the black dragon.
If I had the means, I would purchase both versions of this piece, because it captures that symbolism perfectly.
Excellent craftsmanship.
I respect the “manufacturers'” passion for his “art”, but this is not a watch . . . .
Only a million bucks too!
Looks like something you would find at a Disney gift shop.
I like this watch, nice designs
