Piaget Polo Green Collection 2022

Released in 2016 after causing a bit of a storm, the Piaget Polo collection has now become a cornerstone of the brand, representing its sporty-chic offering. Using classic design elements of Piaget and combining them with its thin automatic movements – even with a striking openworked edition – the Piaget Polo is now fairly established in the watchmaker’s landscape, and it’s been unveiled in several green models already. Now, for 2022, some new green editions are presented, with the new green Piaget Polo Skeleton and the new green-and-gold Piaget Polo Date.

Polo is an important name for Piaget. Since its creation in 1979, the collection has been the brand’s incarnation of the luxury sports watch, but it has been known under rather different incarnations. The Piaget Polo as we know it today has been presented in 2016, surfing on the wave for elegant, thin yet robust sporty-chic watches. A combination well-known to watch enthusiasts, which is here presented with classic Piaget codes, including its expertise in thin movements and its use of luxurious materials. The Piaget Polo collection has expanded recently, by adding new colours to the dials of the Date models, and also by removing them and showcasing a handsome skeleton movement. Now, it’s time for green to come back, within the Polo Date and the Polo Skeleton models.

The Green Piaget Polo Skeleton

The Piaget Polo Skeleton was presented last year and is the collection’s flagship. This watch showcases all of the brand’s mechanical expertise, with an ultra-thin in-house movement that has been nicely opened to reveal its technicality. The Skeleton is only 6.5mm in height yet has great presence on the wrist with its 42mm stainless steel case. The shape is typical Polo, with a mix of circular and cushion lines creating an original watch. An ultra-thin watch, it doesn’t share the same resistance and robustness as the Date model, with a water-resistance of 30 metres only – it’s a fairly delicate watch overall, despite the sporty look.

Piaget Polo Skeleton Green 2022 - G0A47008

The main interest of the Polo Skeleton is its dial, or its absence of a dial to be more precise. What matters here is the calibre 1200S1, an openworked automatic movement wound by a micro-rotor, with a height of only 2.4mm. Modernly designed, with harmonious curves and beautiful contrasts of textures, its plates and bridges are here entirely coated in dark green, complementing the already existing blue and dark grey versions. The movement runs at 3Hz and stores 44h of power reserve. The decoration is pleasant, with alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces catching the light beautifully.

The Green/Gold Piaget Polo Date

Following already two green limited editions in steel of the Piaget Polo Date, one with silvered markers and hands and one with gold markers and hands, the brand now releases its third green Polo Date, this time as part of the permanent collection. And the main difference lies in the materials, as this 2022 model is now encased in 18k rose gold. The 42mm x 9.4mm case remains identical in design and finishing, and it’s still water-resistant to 100 metres.

The textured dial, with its horizontal grooves, retains the same metallic and deep green colour as previous steel limited editions, and now has gold-coloured hands and markers, both filled with Super-LumiNova. The date, framed by a gold element, still takes place at the 6 o’clock position. Inside the case is the calibre 1110P (sharing some elements with the Cartier 1904), an automatic movement with two barrels, a 4Hz frequency and a 50h power reserve. The back reveals a slate grey oscillating weight, circular stripes and blued screws.
