Meet the Gimlet, a New Fears x Studio Underd0g Watch with a Twist

Mix four parts gin, one part lime juice, then add creativity according to taste.

Fears Watch Company, initially founded in 1846 in Bristol (UK), thrived as a family-run business for over a century before closing its doors in 1976. In 2016, Nicholas Bowman-Scargill, the great-great-great-grandson of its original founder, revived the brand, bringing new life to this historic name. Nicholas happens to be an early supporter and friend of Richard Benc, the founder of Studio Underd0g – a young but dynamic brand that has made waves in the industry since its launch in 2021. Known for its bold designs and playful spirit, Underd0g has produced its own standout series and special editions, including collaborations – like the Passion Fruit with H. Moser & Cie. Now, Fears adds its own fresh take to the mix with a new version of its classic Brunswick model – The Gimlet, a stylish and highly appealing timepiece with undeniable charm.

Fears opted for a smaller 38mm version of its signature Brunswick cushion-shaped case for the Gimlet. The two-part stainless steel construction offers 100m of water resistance and measures 12mm thick (including the domed sapphire crystal) with a 43.5mm lug-to-lug span. The short, rounded lugs and a mix of fine-brushed and high-polished finishes give the case an elegant yet contemporary feel. The signature onion crown nods to classic watchmaking, while the dial—designed by Studio Underd0g—brings personality to the timepiece.

Named after the classic cocktail made from gin and sweetened lime juice, the Gimlet captures the drink’s signature fresh lime hue. To achieve this vibrant colour, the base dial is coated with seven layers of specially formulated Super-LumiNova pigment. The “floating” indices and the minutes track and logos are printed onto a 1mm-thick sapphire disc, which is then secured atop the base dial using two visible pins. Shadows cast by the markings and openworked hands create a nice effect, adding a dynamic visual element.

For movement, the Gimlet uses a manually wound Sellita SW210-1, which operates at 28,800 vibrations/hour and has a 42-hour power reserve. The new Fears x Studio Underd0g watch is paired with a Vert Marquis leather strap by The Strap Tailor, featuring quick-release spring bars and closed with a double-branded pin buckle.

The Gimlet is a limited edition of 200; the price is GBP 1,000 (VAT included), and the watch will be available exclusively during the British Watchmakers’ Day event on March 8th 2025.
