A blue mother-of-pearl dial to celebrate the relationship between Doxa and Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons.

Doxa has a reputation, crafted through decades of dedication, of building proper tools for aquatic life. As one of the true pioneers in the field of dive watches, it is known for many robust barrel-shaped instruments. The design has become instantly recognizable as a Doxa, even from afar, regardless of its dial colour. While most of the time, Doxa is very serious about its watchmaking, the brand has started to play around a bit through the use of materials and colours. Watches like the Army, for instance, or the recently introduced SUB 300β collection, which kicked off with a black ceramic and 18k gold edition of the emblematic SUB 300. This so-called Beta line is now expanded with a second surprising watch made in partnership with retailer Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, as Doxa presents the SUB 300β Seddiqi Limited Edition.

Expressing Doxa’s more creative side, the SUB 300β line was launched with a black ceramic case with gold elements, the SUB 300β Sharkhunter. The brand sticks to stainless steel for this second edition of the evocative sub-collection, fitted with a unidirectional black ceramic bezel. The bezel insert is also in ceramic, but in a midnight blue tone, with the signature double diving scale in black and white. On the right, a screw-down crown is nestled into the caseband, while a domed sapphire crystal on top finishes it all off.

A first for the brand, the dial is made from a sea blue mother-of-pearl colour. This gives the impression of calm ocean ripples on a warm summer night, which seems fitting for a dive watch. The applied indices and hands glow in the dark thanks to a generous amount of Super-LumiNova. The minute hand sticks out due to its oversized proportions, something that’s essential to (professional) divers as it aids legibility in challenging circumstances. The final details on the dial are the white printed crosshair and the outlined date window (also in white).

Doxa uses the Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement to power the SUB 300β Seddiqi edition, as it does in most of its watches. This runs at a rate of 28,800vph and has a running time of 38 hours when fully wound. Although it’s not the most advanced of movements, it performs admirably and can be serviced quite easily. It indicates the time with hacking seconds, as well as the date at 3 o’clock. The movement is protected by a solid caseback, ensuring a water resistance of 300m.

This limited edition of the Doxa SUB 300β for Seddiqi is presented in a run of 50 pieces, all fitted to a steel beads-of-rice bracelet. In addition to that, you get a white FKM rubber strap with a ratcheting folding clasp that extends so you can wear the watch over a wetsuit. It is available exclusively at Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons retail locations for a price of AED 11,750, which equates to approximately EUR 2,980.
