The Sparkling Czapek Faubourg de Cracovie Aventurine (Live Pics & Price)

A star-studded glittering take on the Czapek chronograph.

| By Xavier Markl | 2 min read |

Following the inaugural launch of the Quai des Bergues and the Place Vendôme tourbillon, the Faubourg de Cracovie Chronograph is Czapek’s third collection and was introduced at Baselworld 2018. This high-end modern chronograph now embraces the majestic sparkle of blue aventurine as the independent watchmaker introduces the Faubourg de Cracovie Aventurine.

Aventurine is distinguished by its flecked sparkling appearance caused by particles captured in the coloured translucent glass, producing an effect similar to a starry night sky. As such, each aventurine dial is totally unique. Czapek has already used this majestic material in the ‘Midnight in Geneva” Quai des Bergues editions. The Faubourg de Cracovie chronograph now embraces dark blue aventurine in a 50-piece limited edition.

Cutting and drilling aventurine is a delicate operation. Still, the manufacturing of this chronograph dial is all the more challenging as it is a three-part construction – the registers are crafted separately and then fixed to the main dial.

Like previous versions of the Faubourg de Cracovie, the 41.5mm steel case stands out with a slightly raised box sapphire crystal. The chronograph pushers are smartly integrated around the crown guards so they do not protrude and compound a compact feel. The lugs have carved flanks. The transparent caseback is secured by seven screws, and the water-resistance is rated 5 ATM / 50m.

Inside the Faubourg de Cracovie is the automatic SHX3 calibre, a modern high-grade movement made with Vaucher Manufacture. This three-register chronograph features an integrated architecture with a column wheel and vertical clutch. It uses a 5Hz frequency, and its precision is certified by the COSC. The power reserve is comfortable at 65 hours. The watch’s see-through back reveals a modern technical-looking finish based on anthracite sandblasted and diamond-polished bridges. The large golden rotor is skeletonised with the Czapek logo.

The Faubourg de Cracovie Chronograph Aventurine is worn on an alligator strap fitted with a steel folding buckle. The price is set at CHF 34,000 or EUR 38,000.
