The Refreshing Chronoswiss Delphis Sub Zero
The jumping hours and retrograde minutes of the Delphis set in a landscape inspired by glaciers and bright blue arctic skies.
The Ebstein family acquired Chronoswiss from founder Gerd R. Lang in 2012. Respecting many of Lang’s signature complications and design language, including his iconic Regulator, CEO Oliver Ebstein and his team have infused the brand with a refreshing contemporary spirit. Classical decorative techniques are injected with eye-catching colours and textures, producing a repertoire of vibrant models with old-school complications. Following the Delphis models of 2023 and the more recent trilogy released earlier this month with jumping hours, retrograde minutes and small seconds, Chronoswiss returns with the new Delphis Sub Zero in a bright blue case decorated with colours that evoke glacial landscapes.
Distinguished by its bright blue shiny CVD-coated case, the watch is housed in the brand’s signature case with knurling below the bezel and on the caseback, a large onion-shaped crown and straight lugs with their patented screw-in system to secure the strap – in this case, a matching blue rubber strap.
With a diameter of 42mm and a height of 14.5mm, the polished surfaces of the CVD-coated case—bezel, lugs and crown—produce a metallic reflective sheen contrasting with the brushed finishing on the lateral side of the lugs and case middle. With sapphire crystals front and back, the case’s water-resistance is a respectable 100m.
Capturing the frigid tones of glaciers and bright blue arctic skies, the crescent-shaped upper dial hosting the arched retrograde minutes track and jumping hour window at noon has a silver galvanic hand-guilloché background. The lower half of the dial has two openworked matte black bridges suspended over a grained black base. The curved small seconds sub-dial is placed on the lower bridge and has a blue CVD coating decorated with a smaller guilloché pattern. The arched black retrograde minutes track with white numerals is accompanied by a white scale with blue luminescent ceramic dots. The hands for the minutes and small seconds are skeletonised.
The caseback reveals the contemporary automatic calibre C. 6004 developed by La Joux-Perret. It has an openworked tungsten rotor (shaped like the bridges on the dial) and ruthenium-plated components. The movement beats at 28,800vph and has an autonomy of 55 hours.
The Chronoswiss Delphis Sub Zero is limited to 50 pieces and retails for EUR 18,400. For more information, please consult chronoswiss.com.
