Breguet is recognised on a global scale for its commitment to creating refined feminine wristwatches, particularly those from the Reine de Naples collection, which is now considered the brand’s best-selling line for women. Its timepieces are inspired by a bracelet watch from yesteryear, crafted from hair and gold thread. It was one of the world’s first purpose-built wristwatches, designed exclusively for Napoleon Bonaparte’s youngest sister – the Queen of Naples. Caroline Murat was among Abraham-Louis Breguet’s elite list of clients in 1810 when she commissioned the timepiece. In tribute to this ingenious design, Breguet releases yet another iteration for the Reine de Naples collection. The limited edition of 28 pieces is faithful to the same oval-shaped case and boasts a unique dial protected by several patents, including a heart-shaped minute hand whose curves contort and transform its shape depending on its positioning.
The Reine de Naples Coeur Eternal Love Limited Edition watch is dedicated to women and love. The innovative minute hand, off-set at 6 o’clock against a white lacquered sapphire crystal dial, comprises two independent arms that are capable of twisting and extending. The captivating movement of the minute hand is courtesy of a set of gears that extend the shape of the heart at 12 o’clock, yet make it more rounded at 6 o’clock. The oval-shaped cam which mirrors the curves of the Reine de Naples design itself, enables the arms to move at different speeds made possible by four patents. Craftsmen at Breguet execute the elements of this complication to the same exacting standards as they do a mechanical movement – all individually hand-assembled, intricately decorated and carefully finished. Key elements on the dial are finished in a vermilion red colour to match the watch’s red alligator leather strap, complete with an 18-karat rose gold triple folding buckle. Mirroring the watch’s diamond-set flange, surrounding by a diamond-encrusted bezel, are 28 round brilliant-cut diamonds, meticulously set into the surface of the buckle.
The Breguet Reine de Naples Coeur Eternal Love watch is crafted in 18k rose gold and features a crown set with a single ruby gemstone. These subtle red elements (in addition to the Arabic numerals depicting every 15 minutes around the track and the hours displayed centrally in an arc-shaped window) symbolise the romanticism of the watch, released just in time for Valentine’s Day 2021. Turning the watch over reveals a transparent caseback crafted from sapphire crystal glass and the watch’s individual number engraved into the rim of the gold case. Through the see-through caseback is the self-winding Breguet Calibre 78A0, capable of a 40-hour power reserve and a frequency of 3.5Hz, with an anti-magnetic silicon escape wheel.
The 28-piece limited edition Breguet Reine de Naples Coeur Eternal Love is exclusively available to selected Breguet Boutiques. It comes complete inside a red grained calfskin leather envelop clutch bag and is priced at EUR 44,500. More details at www.breguet.com.
