The Bell & Ross BR-X5 Green Lum, With a Fully Luminous Case

Through the darkness of night, light (and this B&R watch) will lead the way!

| By Erik Slaven | 2 min read |

Bell & Ross introduced the LUM series in 2017 with the BR 03-92 HOROLUM and some of the brightest Super-LumiNova on the hands, numerals and indices. The collection of enhanced luminescent watches grew through 2022 and now we have the 2023 BR-X5 Green Lum with a fully luminescent case. Based on the brand’s sportiest watch, the BR-X5 with a Kenissi-sourced manufacture movement, stainless steel is replaced with a composite material for the case – LM3D – and grade 2 titanium. The BR-X5 Green Lum is both lightweight and full of light, showcasing the best of the LUM series.

The case is 41mm in diameter and 12.8mm in height, hitting the mark for a contemporary piece. The core of the case is microblasted grade 2 titanium, finished with a DLC coating. This is surrounded by a green luminescent fibreglass composite (LM3D) with a titanium bezel insert and four screws. The screw-down crown is also titanium with matching guards, while the titanium case back has a smoked grey AR sapphire exhibition window. Water resistance is rated at 100 metres and a black open-worked rubber strap finishes the integrated case aesthetic.

The matte black dial has the same layout as the regular BR-X5 with an extra punch of Super-LumiNova. The skeletonized hands, applied indices and frames around the power reserve indicator and date are fully covered with Super-LumiNova. The 3-day power reserve indicator sits at 9 o’clock, while the date window at 3 o’clock shows three digits at a time (with the centre digit as the date). A 60-minute scale spans the outer flange with Arabic numerals every 10 minutes and a green marker. In the dark, the combination of a luminescent case and fully coated dial elements make for an unusually bright experience.

Powering the BR-X5 Green Lum is the calibre BR-CAL.323, a manufacture automatic made by Kenissi. It beats at 28,800vph (4Hz) and features a 70-hour power reserve (hence the 3-day power reserve indicator). Functions include central hours, minutes, hacking seconds, power reserve indicator and date. This is a COSC-certified chronometer and has a variable‐inertia balance wheel and transversal bridge.

The Bell & Ross BR-X5 Green Lum is limited to 500 pieces and retails for EUR 13,900. Bell & Ross calls this a one-of-a-kind conceptual art object and it’s a unique take on the BR-X5 that launched in 2022, which is an evolution of the BR 05 collection from 2019.

  1. Hammer watch! Props to Bell & Ross, which is often overlooked or underrated in the watch space. Absolute winner.

  2. B@R may call it a one-of-a-kind conceptual art object, but they are making 500 of these. And the price is about $7K more than I expected for a composite case watch with a Kenissi movement. Cool watch. Uncool price.
