The Denim Blue Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G

A stylish white gold and grey-blue combo brings a dash of sophistication to the Aquanaut’s pragmatic GMT travel watch.

Patek Philippe releases a new white gold reference of its popular Aquanaut Travel Time with a greyish-blue dial and matching strap. While many Patek fans mourned the discontinuation of the 5164A stainless steel Aquanaut earlier this year, the new white gold reference – a first for this model –  is a handsome addition to the family and sits alongside the existing rose gold ref. 5164R.

Introduced in 1997, the Aquanaut proved that there was life beyond the mythical Nautilus sports watch. Sportier and more casual than the Nautilus, the Aquanaut was conceived as a multipurpose sports watch and featured a textured tropical rubber strap echoing the embossed pattern of the dial. In 2011, Patek fitted the Aquanaut with its first complication to become the Aquanaut Travel Time.

Flaunting a practical GMT function, the second time zone or home time is indicated with an additional skeletonised hour hand. The date sub-dial at 6 o’clock is indexed to local time, and there are two day/night indicators for local and home time. Another pragmatic feature of the Travel Time is its user-friendly pushers on the left case flank to adjust the local hour hand in one-hour increments backwards or forwards.

The case retains its characteristic rounded octagonal bezel highlighted with a vertical satin-brushed finish and a wide polished bevel, finishings that are replicated throughout the case. With its 40.8mm diameter and 10.2mm thickness, the white gold case is fitted with a screw-down crown but somewhat contradicts its sports watch status with its scant 30m water-resistance.

The lovely opaline grey-blue dial displays the signature embossed grid-like Aquanaut pattern that continues on the integrated composite rubber strap with its patented white gold fold-over clasp. It’s hard to gauge without seeing the watch, but the colour looks quite similar to the one used on the Aquanaut Luce Annual Calendar 5261R of 2023. The white gold applied numerals and local hour, minute and date hands are treated with a white luminescent coating.

Beneath the sapphire crystal aperture on the caseback is Patek’s automatic 26-330 S C FUS calibre powered by a 21k gold rotor. Measuring 31mm x 4.82mm, the movement has a frequency of 4Hz and delivers a maximum power reserve of 42 hours for the local and home time indications, central sweep seconds, day/night indication for local and home time and date coupled with local time.

The new Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G in white gold retails for EUR 62,600 (incl. tax). For more details, please consult patek.com.
