Inercy Paris Unveils The All-New Compass Collection

After its accessible flying tourbillon, French microbrand Inercy launches the new Compass collection with dual crowns, a solar compass, and a Swiss movement.

A young microbrand based in Paris, Inercy started out with a flying tourbillon at a price that makes the complication accessible to a much wider audience. Introduced in 2023, the One was a 42mm watch with a compass-inspired dial and a flying tourbillon. And, tagged at around 1,300 euros, it offered something spectacular for the money. The One was powered by a Chinese-made manual-winding tourbillon movement from PTS Resources, while the watches were assembled and regulated in France. The One has since been done in different colours, and the small French micro-brand even released a skeleton version. For its all-new Compass collection, Inercy drops the tourbillon and switches to a Swiss-made automatic movement from La Joux-Perret.

The Compass takes that compass idea and turns it into something that is a more wearable, everyday watch. Available as Light and Dark, or simply put, white and black, its steel case houses two crowns and an inner rotating bezel that works as both a timing scale and a solar compass. There is much going on visually even with its simple dial design, from the circular metallic groove at the centre to the unusual compass-inspired seconds hand, making the Compass an interesting pick in the three-hander category.

If you look at the Compass, you may perhaps say it doesn’t pack the mechanical design of the One. But, it has its own quirks and qualities. The first thing you notice is the two crowns at 3 and 9 o’clock. For setting the time, you use the crown at 3 o’clock, while the one at 9 o’clock adjusts the bi-directional inner rotating bezel. The bezel has a minute scale for timing, along with the four cardinal points N, E, S, and O for North, East, South, and West, and also works as a solar compass. These crowns also add a bit of symmetry, helping to balance out the case.

The hours and minutes are shown by classic Dauphine hands, with tapered profiles and white Super-LumiNova inserts. The central seconds hand is where the whole compass idea becomes more evident, with a dual-ended design inspired by a compass needle and a red tip on one end. Made from aluminium, this elongated hand with the red tip adds a small splash of colour to the otherwise black and white dials.

The case is 39mm wide and 10mm thick, with a 316L stainless-steel construction. Its exhibition sapphire caseback gives you a look at the custom rotor, while 100 metres of water resistance adds to its everyday robustness. Both versions come with two interchangeable straps, including a black nubuck bull-calf leather strap and a vented black FKM rubber option. A bespoke pin buckle made for the collection completes both straps, with grained, polished, and brushed surfaces to go with the case.

Inside is the Swiss-made La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement, with a 68-hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations/hour. Compass Dark and Compass Light are each limited to 150 pieces and come at a retail price of EUR 1,790.

And there is one more fun thing happening at launch. Inercy is hiding three ‘Gold’ cards at random in the first 300 deliveries. Each buyer has a 1-in-100 chance of finding one, and the three lucky winners get an additional watch with a warm brown dial and gold-toned case. It is a small Golden Ticket-style game built into the launch, and a pretty fun way to ship the first batch of Compasses. For more information, please visit inercy.fr.
