Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons is the leading watch and jewellery retailer in the United Arab Emirates and the name behind the biennial Dubai Watch Week (DWW), now a major event on the industry’s calendar. Among the 90+ participating brands at the seventh edition of DWW is Hublot, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of its iconic Big Bang collection and the 75th anniversary of Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons with the release of two limited Big Bang editions honouring the Middle East’s rich heritage.

When it exploded on the scene in 2005, the Big Bang was the epitome of a supersized, muscular chronograph. Presented in a 44.5mm case, the Big Bang fused unconventional materials like rubber, ceramic and fibreglass. The distinctive layered case construction of the Big Bang, with its lateral ears, knurled bezel, rubber grips and six H-shaped screws in the bezel, is immediately recognisable.

Sticking to the anatomy of the 20th anniversary models but presented in 43mm not 42mm cases with a thickness of 13.2mm, the 100m water-resistant Big Bang Titanium Grey has a titanium case with King Gold pushers, crown and screws as well as the signature black rubber grip on the crown and rectangular pushers. Paying homage to the first Big Bangs, the dial features a stamped carbon fibre chequered motif in two tones of grey. Marking it as a special Seddiqi edition, the applied gold numerals filled with Super-LumiNova are Eastern Arabic, matching those on the 60-minute chronograph register at 2 o’clock and inside the date window at 4:30. A hallmark of feature of all Big Bangs, the rubber strap is silver coloured with a lozenge pattern and has a titanium deployant buckle.

The 43mm Big Bang All-Black reference has a black microblasted ceramic case  and bezel with black-plated titanium screws, pushers and crown. The dial also features the stamped carbon fibre effect of the original, with black and grey squares. The Eastern Arabic numerals and hands are filled with black Super-LumiNova, and the black rubber strap reinforces the watch’s dark appeal.

Powered by the HUB1280 Unico calibre, an automatic manufacture flyback chronograph movement with a column wheel, a 4Hz frequency and a solid 72-hour power reserve, the special editions have a 22k gold rotor engraved with Ahmed Seddiqi 75th Anniversary.

The Big Bang Titanium Grey is limited to 25 pieces and retails for CHF 21,900 / AED 91,700, while the Big Bang All-Black is a limited edition of 10 pieces and retails for CHF 24,900 / AED 104,200. More information at hublot.com.
