Developed with American football player Saquon Barkley, this limited edition features a fully skeletonised movement and a domed aventurine subdial.
H. Moser & Cie. has a particular way of approaching high complications, often combining elaborate mechanics with pared-back design – think Moser’s perpetual calendars. The Pioneer Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton, introduced in 2022, was quite different; it featured a complex skeletonised movement, housed in the robust steel case of the brand’s sportier collection. For its latest version, the independent manufacture has collaborated with Saquon Barkley, the American football player known for his explosive playing style. Meet the Pioneer Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Aventurine Saquon Barkley, a limited edition of 97 pieces.
The watch retains the dimensions, construction and finishes of the earlier Pioneer Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton. The stainless steel case measures 42.8mm in diameter and 11.7mm thick, 15.3mm with the domed sapphire crystal. The caseback also features a sapphire crystal, allowing the movement to be viewed from both sides. A screw-in crown engraved with the Moser “M”. Water resistance is a notable 120m.
The domed aventurine subdial displays hours and minutes. Referencing Barkley’s shirt number, the 2 and 6 o’clock indices glow differently from the other luminous markers, in green. The hour and minutes hands feature Globolight inserts, while the indices use Super-LumiNova. The skeletonised dial exposes the movement’s bridges and mechanical components. At 6 o’clock, a one-minute flying tourbillon provides the movement’s focal point.
The watch is powered by the HMC 811 manufacture calibre, a fully skeletonised automatic. Its anthracite PVD-treated mainplate and bridges frame the open structure, while diamond bevelling highlights the edges. On the flying tourbillon, the cylindrical hairspring features two Breguet overcoils. The calibre comprises 171 components, operates at 21,600 vibrations/hour, and has a minimum power reserve of 74 hours.
The Pioneer Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Saquon Barkley Edition is worn on a white rubber strap, closed with a steel pin buckle engraved with the Moser logo. Limited to 97 pieces, corresponding to the athlete’s year of birth, the H. Moser & Cie.
