Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Light Bucherer BLUE

As the world-leading watch retailer, Bucherer has a solid reputation when it comes to creating special editions available solely through its worldwide network of boutiques and e-commerce platform. With all watches revolving around a central theme, which is the colour blue, the result is often striking, to say the least. The latest introduction is the very contemporary and evocative Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Light Bucherer BLUE.

This new blue-themed watch is based on the already impressive Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Light we’ve covered in January of last year. And with this new L.E. in the ever-expanding Bucherer BLUE collection, the changes to the watch are purely aesthetical. Just as we’ve seen with other recent introductions like the Longines Spirit or the Carl F. Bucherer Heritage BiCompax Annual, it’s all about mixing in a touch of blue in a refined manner.

To tie in blue with a full sapphire case might tempt others to simply tint the crystal and call it a day, but Bucherer managed to restrain itself here. Instead of presenting a watch with a blued sapphire crystal case, the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Light Bucherer BLUE has a blue PVD coated mainplate (or what’s left of the mainplate), as well as a few other subtle updates. This changes the watch from a subdued, almost monochromatic mix of tones to give it a more playful, fluidic look.

The 44mm wide case still houses the fully openworked GP01800-1143 automatic movement, but as mentioned now has a blue PVD coated mainplate to create a striking contrast. The octagonal shape of the mainplate converses nicely with the octagonal shape of the bezel and the caseback. The inner flange along the bezel has polished triangles doubling as hour markers to help read the time.

The watch also gets a new set of hands compared to the original Absolute Light, now being skeletonized with a blue insert to tie in with the theme of the watch. The specs of the movement remain the same. It measures 30mm in diameter and comprises 172 components. Running at a frequency of 4Hz (or 28,800 vibrations/hour), it boasts 54 hours of power reserve. Next to central hours and minutes, there’s a small seconds at 10 o’clock.

  1. These never ending limites/special editions are becoming boring and pointless imho. What are they thinking? And what’s next now? A Charlie Chaplin special edition? Absolutely ridiculous!!
