FOUND: Dutch Coach Louis Van Gaal’s Watch – a Rare Christiaan van der Klaauw Pendulum and We Found One
In case you were wondering what kind of watch Dutch football coach Louis van Gaal was wearing during the FIFA World Cup in Brasil, it’s a Dutch watch, made by none other than Dutch watchmaker Christiaan van der Klaauw. And if that isn’t cool and exclusive enough, Louis Van Gaal’s watch is a limited edition of 25 pieces and we found one for sale.
Maybe you do the same. When someone in a movie or on TV is wearing his watch quite visible, we want to know what it is. Trying to find out which watch Van Gaal was wearing, was a tough one. Luckily he was wearing just one watch during the entire championship, so we got quite a few good glimpses of his wrist. It was clearly a square watch, and our first guess was that it could be a TAG Heuer Monaco. But some details were simply not aligning with that. It was a tough one…
After some searching (online of course) we now we know that it was a Christiaan van der Klaauw Pendulum, limited edition of 25 pieces. How cool is that! The coach of the Dutch football team is wearing an extremely rare watch made by independent watchmaker, and member of the AHCI, Christiaan van der Klaauw, who just celebrated his 4oth anniversary as watchmaker.
Number 19 of the 25 is now for sale at NLWatch and they shared some photos of the watch with us. This particular Christiaan van der Klaauw is a Pendulum, which is the name van der Klaauw used for all his square shaped watches. This particular one has four elephants for the 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock hour markers.
This Pendulum is in stainless steel, and comes with a very nice crown with black (probably onyx) cabochon. The hour and minute hands are sword shaped and are applied with luminous material. The black dial features a beautiful guilloche pattern. This very watch, complete with box/papers, can be your for just under € 5k.
