The Summer-Fresh Delma Montego Chronograph Automatic Ice Blue 100 Year Limited Edition
This accessible and robust all-rounder gets a lively sunray-brushed ice blue dial to celebrate a century of Delma watches
With 100 years of watchmaking under its belt, Delma has quite a rich history. To honour this momentous occasion, Delma has released a fresh ice-blue limited edition of its stout Montego. This automatic chronograph is known for its robustness, fitted with a very reliable automatic chronograph movement and a bold and powerful look. It ties in nicely with the brand’s history, as it has been making chronographs since the mid-1940s. Let’s take a closer look at this fun and well-equipped Delma Montego Chronograph Automatic 100 Year Limited Edition.
The Montego is characterised by a stout stainless steel case of 42mm across and 16.2mm in height. It’s fitted with a fixed stainless steel bezel with an engraved tachymeter scale in black and red. This provides a tone-on-tone look at one end but also adds a nice contrast with the black engraved scale against the brushed stainless steel. The straight lug ends give it a distinct and robust look, backed up by a water resistance of 200 meters. The case is sandwiched by two sapphire crystals and fitted with a screw-down crown and pump-style pushers with knurled collars.
The dial is pretty much the only thing that has changed for this iteration of the Delma Montego, but it’s a somewhat drastic change, aesthetically, at least. Out goes the black, blue, green or silver dial, and in comes a fresh sunray-brushed ice blue one. With it, the Montego becomes an instant attention-grabbing watch with a fresh summer-ready vibe. Due to its finishing, the dial is quite lively under sunlight yet has lost nothing of its legibility. The indications for the passing time and elapsed time are still very much in the clear, with applied markers and hands with Super-LumiNova, black rings for the sub-dials and contrasting black discs for the day and date.
Underneath the sapphire crystal caseback, one can spot the Sellita SW500 automatic chronograph, a clone of the iconic Valjoux 7750. The SW500 has more than earned its merits by now, as it’s proven to be every bit as reliable and capable as the movement it’s based on. It runs at a rate of 28,800vph and has a running time of 48 hours when fully wound by the Delma-signed rotor. Next to central hours and minutes, it indicates the small seconds, and has chronograph functionality split between a central chronograph seconds hand and 30-minute and 12-hour subcounters, plus the day and date.
Delma puts the new ice-blue Montego Chronograph Automatic on the same stainless steel bracelet as its non-limited edition siblings. Only 100 will be made, for a price that’s surprisingly a little lower than the rest: EUR 2.727,95 (compared to EUR 2.750,- on bracelet). So a chance to have a fresh new look for a touch less than usual? We’re all good with that!
