The New Depancel Allure Black Tangerine Chronograph
Depancel refines its racing chronograph with a stealth-and-orange limited series of 50 pieces.
A young French brand with a very clear mission, Depancel aims to produce mechanical watches inspired by classic motoring. Even the name is a contraction of Delage, Panhard and Facel Vega, three storied French carmakers. That automotive spirit runs straight through the Allure collection, the brand’s chronograph line, “imagined for gentleman drivers”. The latest model, the Allure Black Tangerine, is a 50-piece limited edition that takes the existing automatic Allure chronograph and changes it with a sharper colour code (also present in the brand’s Série 01 collection) and a different dial layout dictated by the calibre.
The 316L stainless steel case retains the Allure automatic series design and fairly large dimensions at 43mm in diameter, 48.5mm lug-to-lug and 15mm in thickness (14.2mm without the crystal). The look is purposeful but not overblown, with brushed surfaces and polished accents. A box-shaped sapphire crystal with internal AR-coating tops the watch, and a screw-down crown helps the 100m water-resistant construction. The fixed aluminium bezel carries a tachymeter scale printed in orange. On the left side of the case, there´s a plaque with the limited edition number.
The dial of the Allure Black Tangerine has a black PVD base with layered textures and stepped elements to separate information. Chronograph indications are picked out in bright orange: the central seconds hand and the minute counter at 3 o’clock immediately stand out against the dark background. Depancel’s “dashboard” hands are shaped after classic gauge needles and, together with the hour markers, are filled with Super-LumiNova C1 (green emission) for low-light legibility. The layout remains balanced and functional, with running seconds at 9 and a date at 6 o´clock.
For the Allure Black Tangerine movement, Depancel switches from Sellita to the ETA 7753. This automatic cam-operated chronograph runs at 28,800 vibrations/hour and delivers a 54-hour power reserve. It offers central hours, minutes and chronograph seconds, small seconds, a 30-minute counter, plus a quick-set date. The movement is visible through the transparent caseback, with the decorated oscillating weight.
The Allure Black Tangerine is worn on a polished and brushed H-link stainless steel bracelet for a more technical, pit-lane look. An additional handcrafted French bull leather strap brings out the vintage paddock side of the design, and can be ordered with either a pin buckle or deployant clasp (+ 30 euros). Limited to 50 pieces, the Allure Black Tangerine is priced at EUR 2,400 or USD 2,400 and will not be reproduced.
