The De Bethune Kind of Two concept, a pivoting, double-faced case that literally gives you two watches in one, has proven to be one of the brand´s most successful design experiments. The 2021 DB Kind of Two Tourbillon and the 2022 DB Kind of Two Jumping GMT established the format as both an engineering exercise and a practical daily companion: one side openly technical, the other classically restrained. The new edition of the Kind of Two Jumping GMT preserves that dual character, but presents the Jumping-GMT calibre in a cleaner, more focused execution aimed at collectors who want versatility backed by classic De Bethune finishing.

The case preserves the Kind of Two design: a polished grade 5 titanium round case that pivots on a central axis, allowing the wearer to present either face at will. Dimensions remain compact for such a complex object – 43.3mm diameter and 11.4 mm thick – and De Bethune’s patented floating lugs ensure the watch sits securely and comfortably on the wrist. The turning mechanism is a small, engineered assembly of stainless and titanium components; it indexes precisely and feels mechanically decisive. Sapphire crystals, front and back, are treated with double anti-reflective coatings; water-resistance is nominal at 30m.

As before, the two faces present contrasting personalities. The contemporary side exposes the movement architecture: hours are read around a ring that orbits the balance at 6 o’clock, while minutes run on the peripheral scale. Visual depth is created through layered finishing, shot-peened, snailed and mirror-polished surfaces, plus blued steel accents and a deltoid titanium bridge. The classical reverse is a restrained GMT display in anthracite: a hand-guilloché centre, convex levels, applied gilded numerals and a jumping dead-seconds indicator. Functionally clever, the mechanism guarantees the hands rotate correctly whichever side faces up; the crown controls home time (position 3) and the second time zone (pulled to position 2).

Powering the watch is De Bethune’s in-house DB2517: a 30 mm, hand-wound calibre running at 36,000 vibrations/hour with a self-regulating twin barrel delivering about four days of autonomy. The movement integrates a deadbeat seconds mechanism and a reversible GMT system that allows two independent time settings, one per dial. Finishing is class-leading: mirror-polished titanium motion-works, chamfered bridges, hand-snailed barrels and the brand’s titanium balance with white gold inserts and De Bethune balance-spring.

The watch is worn on an alligator strap with alligator lining, closed with a polished grade 5 titanium pin buckle. Production is constrained by the manufacture’s workshop capacity; pricing is aligned with the watch’s technical pedigree: CHF 195,000 (excl. taxes). More information at debethune.ch.
