The Darker De Bethune Kind of Two GMT x Swizz Beatz

A darker habitat for the impressive reversible two-faced GMT with jumping seconds.

De Bethune teams up for the third time with American rapper and record producer Kasseem Daoud Dean, aka Swizz Beatz. The model selected for the artistic collaboration is the DB Kind of Two GMT, an impressive convertible watch with two dials for the dual time display and jumping seconds. One of the most intuitive ways to consult two different time zones, the two faces reveal radically distinct personalities. Donning a dark titanium and zirconium case and predominantly black dials with shots of blue, the Kind of Two GMT x Swizz Beat is a limited edition of 10 pieces.

Following the DW5, the first collaboration piece with Swizz Beatz in 2020 and the DBD Art Deco-inspired model with a digital display, the third joint creation involves the Kind of Two GMT released in 2022. Powered by the 30th calibre developed by master watchmaker Denis Flageollet, the two-faced watch swivels gracefully on its axis thanks to the patented 28-part pivoting floating lugs.

The GMT is housed in a 43.3mm case, with a thickness of 11.4mm, made from a mix of zirconium and satin-finished grade 5 titanium, while the floating lugs are made from matte black zirconium. Designed with user-friendliness, home time is set on the contemporary face using the crown in position 3. The second time zone is adjusted with the crown in position 2 on the classical GMT face, and voilà, two separate time zones on two different faces.

The contemporary dial with the black openworked delta-shaped bridge guarding the balance wheel is designed to show off the complex movement and display home time. Using a black and gold colour scheme similar to the DB27 Titan Hawk, the hours are featured on a black sub-dial at 6 o’clock with golden Arabic numerals and a polished blued steel pointer hand with a satin-brushed steel insert. The golden minutes are displayed on the periphery and indicated by a blued steel hand that orbits the dial on a black circumferential gear ring.

Decorated with microlight and satin finishes, the black-coated components offer views of the two 14k gold wheels of the jumping seconds mechanism (visible on the classical face) and the silver accents of the twin barrels.

Swivel the case, and the second, more classical dial with local time appears. The GMT dial plays with black and silver and touches of De Bethune’s signature electric blue. The convex minutes/seconds flange is printed with 60 silver Arabic numerals with a precision track on the border to capture the fascinating motion of the mirror-polished steel hand, marking the jumping seconds.

Arranged on a recessed and wider matte black chapter ring, the large silver Arabic hour numerals are sloping, and the blued titanium central hour hands, with their Breguet-style open tips, consolidate the more traditional feel of the GMT dial. The central area of the dial is also recessed and features De Bethune’s random hand-guilloché pattern with a two-tone black and blue colour scheme.

Running at 5Hz and with a 4-day power reserve, the sophisticated and complex hand-wound DB2517 calibre drives two distinct and independent dials and a deadbeat seconds complication. As you have come to expect from De Bethune, the finishing is top-notch.

The DB Kind of Two GMT x Swizz Beatz is a limited edition of 10 pieces. The price is on request. More information at debethune.ch.
