The New Czapek Antarctique S Mirrored Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition
Czapek produces a special two-tone steel and gold model with a mirrored silicon dial for the 70th anniversary of Sincere Fine Watches.
Czapek orchestrated its launch through an equity crowdfunding campaign funded mainly by watch aficionados. As a brand with its ear to the ground, Czapek listens closely to its friends and shareholders and, in 2020, responded to their request for a luxury sports watch. Incarnated by the Antarctique, Czapek’s first luxury sports watch was also powered by the brand’s first in-house movement. Today, Czapek releases the Antarctique S Mirrored Platinum Jubilee Edition to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Sincere Watches, Czapek’s exclusive retailer in Southeast Asia. Sporting novelties for the collection, the two-tone case and bracelet are complemented by a striking mirrored dial, made from an unexpected material.
Avoiding the angular bezels and other trappings of many luxury sports watches vying for attention on the market today, the Antarctique is a fresher, more original contender with beautiful finishings. Available in 40.5mm cases, Czapek responded to market trends for smaller, unisex watch sizes and introduced a more compact 38.5mm Antarctique S reference in 2022.
The limited-edition model for Sincere Watches adopts the smaller 38.5mm diameter and 10.6mm thick case size. Marking a first for the collection, the two-tone case is made from stainless steel with yellow gold used for the bezel, crown guards and central links of the integrated bracelet. While the more compact case reflects the flat barrel-shaped case and round bezel of the larger reference, the shoulders protecting the crown are pared down for a more streamlined and elegant look without impairing the 120m water-resistance.
The mirrored dial with a touch of platinum is designed as a tribute to Sincere Watches’ Platinum Jubilee. Developed in collaboration with MD’Art, the dial is made from a single wafer of silicon – a material usually found on hairsprings. The thin disc of crystalline silicon is polished to create a perfectly smooth surface before a fine PVD coating of platinum is applied to amplify the reflective qualities of the silicon.
The mirrored dial has the collection’s classic rhodium-plated hour markers treated with blue emission Super-LumiNova matching that applied to the sword-shaped hour and minute hands. The only touch of colour can be found on the red tip of the central seconds hand. With no date window to mar the reflective scenery, the dial’s mirrored surface can work its magic. The stylised C-shaped links of the tapering integrated steel bracelet are brightly polished, and the watch is equipped with Czapek’s exclusive quick-change system.
Turning the watch over reveals Czapek’s beautiful in-house automatic calibre SXH5 driven by an off-centred platinum micro-rotor. The gear train is secured by seven black sandblasted and skeletonised bridges, including the transversal bridge securing the variable inertia balance wheel. Beating at a frequency of 28,800vph, the single barrel delivers a power reserve of 60 hours. The finishing is modern but elaborate, with hand chamfering, black polishing and bevelling. The sapphire crystal on the caseback features a transfer of Sincere Watches’ commemorative logo.
The Antarctique S Mirrored Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition is a limited edition of 38 watches. It is available exclusively at Sincere Fine Watch Boutiques for SGD 48,800.
