Six Classy Dress Watches, With A Twist

The classic dress watch segment is home to some of the most iconic and enduring watches in history, yet there are plenty of new and very desirable pieces making the rounds. If you dare to tread outside the beaten path a bit, that is. Over the past couple of years, the dress watch category has seen a refreshing revival, with new entries high and low capturing the eye. With that in mind, we’re taking a look at six splendid dress watches, all but one with a manually wound movement, but more importantly, each with a very distinct and contemporary style!

Frederique Constant Classics Moneta

The Classics Moneta Moonphase by Frederique Constant was already a rather pretty watch when introduced in 2024, with a quartz movement. For 2026, the brand has made the clever move to release a mechanical Classics Moneta, without the lunar indication. The result is just sumptuous. A compact and very classy dress watch with plenty of character, thanks to details such as the fluted bezel underneath the crystal and the gradient salmon dial. At a size of 38.5mm by 10.13mm, it is pretty spot-on in that department as well! Limited to 999 pieces, it is worn on a black alligator leather strap with a steel pin buckle. The price is CHF 1,995.

Alexandre Martin 1965

Making his independent debut with the gorgeous 1965, watchmaker Alexandre Martin quite hit a sweet spot. Subtle contemporary details give it tons of character despite showing hours, minutes and seconds only. The 1965 measures 38mm in diameter and 9.35mm in height, with a concave bezel on top of a stainless steel case. The 3-part dial is a thing of restrained beauty, with a gold base, gold markers, enamel subdial and hand-polished steel hands. It’s powered by an extensively reworked, beautifully finished CYMA 586, with grained German Silver bridges, polished bevels and sinks and so on. Limited to 12 pieces in steel, it has a price of CHF 65,000.

Venezianico Redentore Levius

If you’re looking for something with a little bit more of an Italian flair, the Venezianico Redentore Levius is a rather solid option. Thanks to its grade 5 titanium case of just 38mm in width and 8.9mm in height, it wears super-comfortably on the wrist. The hand-engraved guilloché dial in a splendid tone of blue is decorated with applied markers, a polished bevel to separate the centre from the chapter ring, and faceted, polished hands. It uses the manually wound Calibre V5000, developed and manufactured by OISA, which delivers 60 hours of running time and is very nicely decorated. Worn on a dial-matching blue leather strap, it retails for EUR 4,750.

Marcu Initial

Another indie debutant, Jérôme Marcu is a very experienced watchmaker now launching under his own name with the Initial. This manually wound watch surprises with a contemporary design, including a raised chapter ring, a pine-needle motif and triangular diamonds on the tips of the hands. Available in blue, anthracite or gold, it indicates the hours and minutes only. The movement, calibre JM01, shows a remarkable symmetrical layout, with 75 polished angles to name just one element. Fitted to an Alcantara strap with a pin buckle, the grade 5 titanium Marcu Initial is available in a run of 33 pieces, priced at CHF 59,000 before VAT.

Kiwame Tokyo Yane

Something a little bit different, coming from the Land of the Rising Sun, is the Kiwame Tokyo Yane. Inspired by the rooftops of historic Japanese temples in Asakusa, the Yane is the brand’s first rectangular watch. The compact stainless steel case shows sloping ends with a fluted finish, mimicking the aforementioned roofs. Available in either a clean black or brown lacquered dial, the Yane relies on the Miyota 6T27 automatic, with 4 hours of power reserve. The leather strap matches the case, and while the first batch of 400 is sold out, sales will resume in January of 2027. And at USD 730, it’s virtually a no-brainer for price and looks!

Berneron Mirage 38 Miroir

We’re going out with a bang, as the Mirage 38 Miroir by Berneron literally turns the concept of a watch on its head. Following the debut of the uniquely shaped Mirage, the Mirage Miroir reveals all its mechanical secrets with a movement that is constructed upside-down and mirrored. The stacking of the hand-set is also reversed, with the hours on top of the minutes. The finishing is beyond belief, with details waiting to be discovered at every glance. The power reserve is 72 hours, and it’s worn on either a leather strap or a solid gold multi-link bracelet. The price? A hefty CHF 72,500 on the strap, or CHF 130,250 on the bracelet. And that’s before VAT.
